Favorite Ireland Hotel

While we stayed in very nice hotels and castles, The Killarney Park Hotel was our favorite!
The Service was A+, the food delicious and the rooms were wonderful! I have recommend this hotel to many of our friends!

Unique Quality: Everyone who worked there was friendly and went out of their way for you. I loved the added touch of the bowl of lemons on the table in the corridor...unexpected and a unique! Our room overlooked the gardens and had a very comfortable chaise postioned near the window to sit and relax or read.

Park Hotel Kenmare

by pegoode

First trip to Ireland in Sept. 2004. 2 couples (40s), flying in and out of Shannon. Don't like to hop to a different B&B each night. Thinking of spending the first week around Galway then move down to Kerry for the second week and rent a cottage. I noticed the Park House in Kenmare has cottages on their property for rent for E775 a week. Does anyone have any experience with these properties? Would Kenmare be a good place to base ourselves for a week? We're thinking we'd like to go to Dingle, the Ring, the Lakes of Killareny, Kinsale, maybe kiss the Blarney stone?

Thanks for all your help.

Pam

The Park is a lovely Hotel and the cottages are very nice - Not a bad price either for September. Kenmare would be an ideal place to stay - much 'cooler' than either Dingle or Killarney. Blarney and Kinsale would be about a 2 hour drive from Kenmare. Not a huge amount to do in Blarney (apart from the stone !!), so drive to Blarney in the morning and then head to Kinsale for lunch (find Fishy Fishy cafe for the best fish in Ireland !) and head back to Kenmare later that evening. Have fun.

Kenmare is a great place to base yourself. I'm from Killarney, Kenmare is 20 miles away but I love going there. It's a smaller and less commercialised town than Killarney, but it has (in my opinon) better Hotels, Restaurants and Pubs!!! I am not familiar with the cottages that you speak of, but if they are on the Park hotel property they are in the middle of town! The park hotel is one of the best in the country, it often has celebrities from all over the world staying there. Driving times non-stop from Kenmare, Killarney 30 mins, Dingle 1 H 30mins, Ring of Kerry 4 Hours, Kinsale 2 Hours via Cork city or 3 via the Beara peninsula. Blarney 2 Hours. I hope that you enjoy your holiday, if you need more info let me know.
Regards,
Ger.

Hi,
I too can highly recommend Kenmare as a base. It's not only on the Ring of Kerry, but also on the less touristic Beara ring - both actually have great scenery, and the main tourist season will be over then, but still enough to do. Was there once for a week of hiking in september (and also visited the Skelligs, great boattrip off the Ring), with quite good weather and some good music in the pubs at night.

For other accommodation in and around Kenmare I can also recommend the websites
www.neidin.net
www.kenmare.com
www.tuosist.com

Have a nice stay!
P.
