1928 works for me

The Grand could not in any sense be labelled 'Grand'. There are however a good number of adjectives such as 'cosy', 'homely', 'traditional' I would be happy to use. The small lobby is tastefully done with an open fire and some really heavy mahogany furniture that looks so substantial it looks as if the hotel was bulit around it.

It's a three star, and a good one at that. The rooms are re-furbished to a good modern standard, the breakfast is cooked individually rather than being a buffet affair. The pub on the groundfloor does good bar-foor for around 15 euro for a manin dish and the Guinness is strong and black. I don't ask for much else in a hotel, although a friendly face on reception and free wifi were also good to have.

Being a hotel that dates from 1928, located in what was three Georgian townhouses, the place lacks gyms, health spas, pools and coffee docks that every modern hotel seems to come with as standard. Somehow that doesn't really matter if you'r not with kids or staying more than a couple of nights.

The real downside (if applicable) is a lack of car-parking spaces. It has about three in the rear lane between the rubbish bins.
