Couldnt find better
by TripAdvisor Member rachndean
Our stay at the hotel was great. It is only new and the rooms are huge and has the most comfortable bed ever! Couldnt rate the staff higher and they were very helpful. You get free parking, free use of the Leisure Centre, which is an excellent fitness centre with swimming pool. What more could you want for only 79Euro a night.
We have been travelling through Europe for the last 3 months and always check the hotels with trip advisor before we book and are constantly amazed at how many people complain about the service, the breakfasts, if they have to carry there luggage up stairs etc! We have found that if the rooms are large, clean and in a good location then your on a winner....you dont go there for the staff!
Perfect hotel in perfect location

This hotel is brand new with all the amenities you could want. The location was perfect for exploring Kilkenny: a block from Kilkenny Castle and the great shopping/eating High Street. This hotel was just perfect.
Lovely Room, Good Value but Rude!
by TripAdvisor Member Jane5194
A group of 4 couples stayed in this hotel during a weekend to Kilkenny. It is central and new, with fabulously comfortable beds...BUT the reception employee who was there during our stay managed to be rude & unhelpful to us, and each of the other 3 couples individually. It was as though our presence was a bit of a drag for him. I wouldn't say avoid, as its very good value, but just don't expect a warm welcome.
Reception Rude
by TripAdvisor Member Honeybee84
The hotel is gorgous when we arrived we could not believe how lovely it was & how cheap it was, when we were checking in the receptionist on the desk was very rude, like she didn't want to be there, we thought it was just us until we asked more people that were staying in the hotel & they said the same. The room was lovely the bed was huge, the rooms were lovely & warm. Breakfast the following morning was a bit scatty there was no organisation to it, like our table never got toast we were never asked if everthing was alright 1 waitress went around to every tables in the main part but when it came to our section there was about 7 tables in this section she dropped the coffee & tea pot & told us to help ourselves.,
Loved the Pembroke

We stayed in the Pembroke hotel on a sunday night. Hadn't visited kilkenny before so wanted hotel in central location. It was an excellent place to stay. Very quiet , beautiful room, v comfy bed, great shower, nice breakfast, excellent location. We were right beside the castle ( partial view from room) restaurants and pubs. Parking was around corner from hotel. Very near and free. Overall thought it was excellent and very good value

We were a group of 4 girl's looking for a central hotel at a reasonable rate for a girly weekend, and the Pembroke didn't disappoint. The hotel is perfectly located, right in the town centre, but away from the late night madness, so there was no noise issues. The hotel is new and nicely decorated. The bed's were comfy, but you only get two sheets and a blanket, so not good for us duvet lovers, who were a little chilly! The hotel bar was in the basement, so anyone worried about late night noise shouldn't have any problems.
Some of our party arrived early and checked in, the receptionist watched out for the rest of us to arrive and greeted us by name as we walked in the door, which was a nice touch. We did all agree though that the reception staff were a little bit odd, like they were trying to sell the place too much. When we asked for directions to a pub, we got them with the tag line 'the hotel is well located for all the pubs in the town'........ok!
Security is tight, no access to floors without a key and each room member must show their key when entering after hours, so bring all your keys out and don't lose any!
Overall, a great hotel at a very reasonable rate!
room for improvement

This hotel is fine- good location, nice rooms. The big problem is the staff. The young guy who checked me in was the rudest receptionist I've ever encountered. He couldn't even stretch to say hello when I came in. Then he briefly consulted the list of names for the group I was staying with, got it wrong and gave me a key for someone else's room- so much for their security. I then went upstairs and walked into an occupied bedroom- mortifying. The reception guy didn't even apologise, in fact didn't even react when I told him the mistake. The next day we slept late and missed housekeeping. They left the towels outside with note to contact reception before 5pm if we wanted the room cleaned. I rang them at around 3pm and the receptionist (a woman this time) seemed astonished that I was ringing. She was rude, snappy and obviously had no clue of what she was doing. These guys need to go paintballing or something for a bonding weekend as they all seem desperately unhappy and incompetent in their jobs.

Stayed here for weekend for a relaxing break. Was looking forward to a stay in a nice new hotel. Arrived at 7.30pm, checked in by John who was nice & friendly guy - lobby has no atmosphere, no music but decor is nice. Enquired about having some food there and he informed me they didnt have a restaurant and the wine bar was closed early as it was quiet. Off up to our room, which is nice and clean, spacious and modern. Switched on TV for background noise and there was no digibox so called reception and John came up and said he'd have to go find one for us (which he did). I asked him about DTs Bar that apparently does food and he advised me that 'he' went home early also cause it was quiet. But there would be food from 10am - 8pm on Sat. Didnt bother getting up for breakfast, had been awake all morning with banging doors and noisey Air Con system. Decided to go to the bar at 12.30pm for lunch before heading out for the day but the bar was closed - it was now going to be open at 2pm - needless to say we abandoned the idea and headed out. Had dinner plans for 7pm and came back to hotel around 5pm and were again going to have a snack in the bar but we were informed there was only Scones & Crossiants available (the website does state food from mon-fri but i hadnt seen this)! So all in all none of the staff seem to know rightly whats going on in this hotel. We know there are loads of places to eat in Kilkenny but we had vouchers for the hotel in excess of our room cost so figured we'd have some food on the rest of the voucher - we were able to charge drinks to the room at least. The bar is actually lovely, really nicely decorated. And it was buzzing at 1.30am on Sat night. When we came in at 1.30am we were greeted by the door man who 'demanded' to know if we were residents which we said we were, gave him our room number and name, he checked his list and apparently couldnt find us on it and barked at us 'you're not residents' and when we insisted we were and repeated our details he demanded to see our keycards and then let us in. He did the same to a couple behind us. Sunday morning on check out some people were complaining about lack of hot water which the lady on reception said she was amazed at as they never have a problem with the water so i informed her we had not had enough hot water either - she didnt apologise. This hotel is fine if you want something basic and clean and basically a bed for the night but dont look for anything extra as you wont get it - the mantra in response to most enquiries seems to be 'you can avail of this at our sister hotel The Ormonde'... so maybe you should just stay there. When you are away for a relaxing weekend the little things count so it was a disappointing stay.
great hotel in kilkenny!

After reading a few mixed reviews on this hotel I was a bit hesitant booking it but I am glad I did...!!!
My boyfriend and I went to Kilkenny for the week end. We got there quite early and we couldn t check in yet. So we left our bags a the reception. By the time we came back for check in our bags were already up in the room. We were nicely surprised when we saw the room: it was big and had a huge comfortable bed. It is a modern and quite new hotel so everything is in impeccable condition. At the time of the booking they had no more castlebiew room available so we went for a standard double. The view was not spectacular but it did not really matter to us.
Details such as mood lighting in the bathroom, dimmable lights by the bed helped create a relaxing setting. I absolutely loved that feature.
Overall, the staff were polite, the room and bed very comfortable and the location is fantastic: 2 min walk to the heart of vibrant Kilkenny city but WITHOUT the noise that certain clients in hotels further down the road may experience. We had a great sleep!
Breakfast was ok, a bit chaotic and i think the staff were struggling a bit to keep up but it was still enjoyable.
A pleasure to stay here
