Enjoyment for a Jamaican in Limerick
by vaughnq
All I am intending to stay in Limerick at Hilton [old Jurys Hotel] during October. What is there to do, enjoyment of all types, any type just trying to get the experience. I am from Jamaica so it would be allot different.

Travel Tips for Limerick
Limerick Greyhound Racing Track
by Kristina1701
This was the first time in my life I ever got to see a greyhound race. It seems to be very popular in Ireland and it's even a popular venue for collegues from work I was told.
When you buy your entrance ticket you get a brochure listing the latest of the dog's records to facilate your decision on which dog to bet on. If you decide to bet on a dog, the smallest possible amount is 1 Euro; if your dog wins you'll get 1.40 Euro lol. I decided to bet, just for fun, aaaaand ...... lost
:( lol The dog I put my money on had excellent records actually but didn't seem to be in good-condition on that day; it looked just horrible lol ;)
The race only takes about a minute or so. There's a kind of bait and all the dogs desperately try to catch it by running after it like crazy.
Old Limerick curses!
by orlikins
Dated back to the 400s or so, an old curse was cast on Limerick city by the city's earliest bishop and it's patron saint Munchin when his fellow Limerickmen would not help him build a church, so in a fit of anger, Munchin declared that no Limerickman should ever prosper in his native city.
If one crosses the Thomond bridge late at night, the Bishop's Lady can, if she wants, fling him off the bridge's battlements. Now this is considered as fanciful codswallop now, but people really believed back then.
Hurling
by annamantere
Many men I met in Ireland had some part of their face broken or scarred.. it´s the game of hurling which causes the damage.
To the outsider it looks very violent and very dangerous indeed. It´s a teamgame, a bit like football or baseball, but at the same time nothing like them at all. Irish people go mad because of this game, the atmosphere in the matches is great! Go and find out for yourself.
Limerick's twin passions
by sourbugger
On the main O'connell street of the city, look out for a rather fine bronze statue outside the AIB bank (unless the bank is bankrupt and has disappeared by the time you read this). It features the two sporting obsessions of the county...hurling and rugby. As these two codes used to be at loggerheads with each other so that the twain should never meet...it was perhaps a little daring of the artist Robin Buick to put them together on the same pedestal.
Limerick are often there or thereabouts when it comes to the finals of the two GAA games, huring and gaelic footbal in the autumn. When it comes to rugby the Munster teams has had great success in recent years including a win over the Australians in 2010 !
Check out the Poulnabrone...
by Nobbe
Check out the Poulnabrone Dolmen in the Burren area, north of Limerick. This is a tomb from about 2500-2000 bc. Burren is a beautiful area between Limerick and Galway, not that far from the Cliffs of Moher.
