Living in Castlebar!
by yanstar
Hello ! Im going to work for a time of four month (April to August) in the Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar ! Now im looking for a suitable room/ flat/ appartment for two persons ! It should be payable as I don´t get money for my work (elective)! Does anyone has an idea who is to ask or what to do? Thank you !

You could try www.daft.ie, or maybe you can even get someone at the hospital to put up a note for you on their notice board.
I don't know about accommodation prices in Mayo, but I think it's safe to say that it won't be cheap anywhere in Ireland. Usually people share appartments or houses, and maybe you should consider that option.
Good luck,
Birgit

Rent should be dirt cheap in Castlebar, you should _definitely_ be able to get a room for under €50 / week. the most likely option is sharing a house in Castlebar and share the bills with the housemates.
Try www.castlebar.ie or check the local papers when you get here.
(am surprised u dont get paid for working, is that legal?)

Thank you for your advice ! I ´m afraid it is legal that i don´t get paid (actually it has to be unpaid :( (silly study law)! I´m doing something like an internship (Elective)...i don´t know the exact translation! Anyway im looking very much foreward to my time in ireland!
Travel Tips for Castlebar
Where the hell am I?

This is a question you will ask yourself often in Castlebar.
Durning WWII, the residents of Castlebar took down street signs in order to confuse the enemy and make it harder for the streets to be patrolled. It worked, and as a memorial, a lot of the street signs have never been put back up.
redheaney's Achill Island!
by redheaney
Sorry! Though I have been to Castlebar, I was a little disappointed to be unable to locate ACHILL ISLAND (which is about a 45 minute drive from C'bar) and that would be the main purpose of this page! It is an Irish treasure on the Western coast of Ireland, and a truly wonderful place to visit. There are activities abounding, for both the active traveller and the more laid back one... from fishing in the Atlantic (with local fishermen, who arrange trips for visitors)... windsailing & canoeing on the local lake... golf - on a very unique (somewhat different!)9-hole course... there is something quite special about playing a round of golf with sheep! There are spectacular views and magnificent scenery on Achill Island... beaches (for when the weather permits!) Excellent restaurants and a vivacious nightlife! Depending on the time of year that one visits, would determine how much is going on, with regards to the "nightlife." During peak seasons, there is an abundance of nightly entertainment - with live bands in most pubs and the nightclubs are in full swing practically every night of the week. And during the off-peak season, you might still find some pub-bands playing, though the clubs are still hopping, with locals still requiring their own entertainment!
