More about Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel

A wonderful experience everytime we stay

by A TripAdvisor Member

Westport is one of the best towns in Ireland and when in Westport we always stay at the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel on the Quay. Three years we have been going there and it has been a consistently good experience everytime. Over the years i introduced my family to this hotel and now my sister has chosen it for her wedding......... i think that says it all.

Excellent hotel with excellent staff

by TripAdvisor Member therealmccoy

We are a family of four, 2 adults, 1 child aged 5 and one infant aged 1. We have just been to stay at the Atlantic Coast Hotel in Westport, we felt we needed a post christmas break! We had a family room which was very comfortable and spacious.
We decided we would venture out on the Saturday night and the receptionist, who was very helpful booked us a babysitter and recommended places we should go for an enjoyable night out. As it was the first time to leave the baby with a sitter, we decided to stay local, so we ate in the Blue Wave Restaurant, which is located on the top floor of the hotel , where the food was second to none and the view overlooking Clew Bay was spectacular, it had the most gorgeous atmosphere, very relaxed. We then went downstairs to the bar for some inhouse entertainment, which may I add was excellent.
The kids were looked after very well and there was lots to do with them during the day, swimming being their favourite!
We had a fantastic time in the Atlantic Coast and we can't wait to return.
Thanks to all the staff.

Excellent stay

Stayed for three nights mid-week. Good room with harbour view. Food excellent with very good service. Nice location. Rooms to rear would have poor view! Only complaint regarded heating which was never over warm and on some occasions was cold. Pool was great hit with 6 year old. Would definately return but only to room at front with harbour view.

4 star joke, very disappointing

by A TripAdvisor Member

stayed here between xmas and new year. Staff were excellent but overall, standards were not what you would expect for a 4 star. decor in reception etc and rooms are drab although hotel only open a few years. Food ok in restaurant but nothing to write home about and although in a great location, its hard to see any view as windows are small!!! Very big hit with families and a lot of young kids stay here so avoid if you are not used to that. Swimming pool is tiny and a bit discusting. More like a public baths and not up to the "SPA" as it is described. Bar is quite cosy though and adjoining pubs were good craic. Overall, we forgot about the hotel and just had a great time in westport which is what it is all about.

Atlantic Coast, Westport top notch!

by A TripAdvisor Member

I spent a weekend in the Atlantic Coast in February with my fiance.Great value on their 2 nights + 1 dinner deal. The restaurant was excellent (I recommend the duck, and the Macon Lugny wine!). A short taxi spin from the town, the night doesn't end when you return to base, as there were many accomplished singers in the residents bar! Staff were more than helpful and I will certainly return for another weekend away.

Definitely NOT 4 or 3 Star

by TripAdvisor Member MoofiIreland

4 friends stayed in 2 rooms in July 2005 for an annual weekend of hill walking on Croagh Patrick. We normally stay at Knockranny but that was booked out. While "Atlantic Coast" sounded attractive it was a total misnomer as we had 2 rooms which overlooked a horrible semi-underground car park. While we would get over that, we could not open the windows due to the smell and noise from the air extraction ducts outside the windows. In addition, the rooms were on the 1st floor and were located either close to or over the kitchen and we could hear rattles and shouting from the kitchen. The rooms were also near some kind of function room and we were treated to thump, thump, thump noises from a wedding reception till 2 A.M. The leisure centre was a 2 star kip... we really felt unsafe to stand barefoot on the filthy floor of the changing rooms. The steam room was clearly so grotty that only the bravest would dare risk entering the excuse for a pool. All in all.. AWFUL.

4 Star? No way!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Having not had a holiday for quite a while, we excitedly booked this hotel based on its four star rating and promise of a quality spa. Not only was our room dark, dingy and decorated like a bad roadside motel, the bathroom had dirty grout and moulding tiles. We moved rooms after complaining to the reception staff, and although this was better with the benefit of natural light, the dirty looks we then received from staff left a lot to be desired. The restaurant food was quite nice, however just "nice" is not 4 star. Overall a terribly dissapointing weekend and waste of money.

not 4 star standard

by TripAdvisor Member tadgh9

Did not enjoy stay in this hotel, our children who are both well behaved were not allowed use the main diningroom ,we were shown to a canteen- like room full of crying babies and toddlers,we were very disappointed as the whole family enjoy a relaxed quiet dinner together.Generally the whole experience was very poor, our room was noisy and we were kept awake by music from the public bar below .In my opinion this hotel is not 4 star standard.

Two star accommodation, restaurant three

by TripAdvisor Member kiki7795

We arrived here from the Sligo Radisson, expecting a hotel of comparable high standards. We were very disappointed and cannot understand why this hotel is rated four stars. The decoration of the hotel is dingy and unattractive and reminiscent of the 1980's. When we arrived in the late afternoon, tired after a long journey, our room was not ready. The room, once available, was pretty dire, cramped and simply not up to standard. The facilities and furnishings were poor: sheets were too small for the bed and there was no bath towel. The room also smelt horribly of cheap air freshener spray: no substitute for a thorough clean.
Unfortunately, the view from the hotel was also not what we had expected: instead of the beauty of Clew Bay you gaze upon a selection of bouncy castles and two of surely the most ugly buildings in Westport. From one window in the restaurant you can see Croagh Patrick, although for some reason this is often obscured by red nylon nets.
The restaurant, in fairness, is some mitigation for the accommodation: I would recommend that you visit this but avoid staying in the hotel.

Absolutely Loved it

by TripAdvisor Member Des & Carol

Just returned from a long weekend at the Alantic Coast Hotel.
Rooms where more than adequate cleaniness was A+
The views from our room was magnificent.
Staff were super efficent and friendly.
Restuarant views were beautiful, as was the food, breakfast was a buffet or something from the menu. We had dinner here also were the food was to die for.
Car parking facilities at back of the hotel.
Overall it was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. I would have no hesitation in reccommending it.
