Huge Room

This hotel was a little outdated but when we explained that we were on our honeymoon they upgraded us to a HUGE suite! They were going to give us the honeymoon suite but they said a couple on there 50th anniversary was already in it so they gave us another suite which the room was so big. The hotel itself was a little outdated and the free wi-fi never worked. We enjoyed our one night stay here but a few things could be updated.

Unique Quality: Good Customer Service,
Not very good FREE Wi-fi
Ensuite bathrooms,
Free Parking

Friendly, central hotel

The hotel was easy to find, just off the main road into Sligo from the north. Prices were very reasonable for the stay, drinks and meals. Staff were very friendly and spoke to us on first name terms as they got to know us. The breakfast was great, whatever you wanted and 2nds if you were fit! The hotel is a mix of modern and traditional, very comfortable, warm and enough space. Very short walk to centre and the quayside / nightlife. Definitely recommended and will be back.

Unique Quality: Location, value for money, friendliness.

By the Quay

The rooms seemed small but adequate. We were within walking distance of downtown and the tourist office. It seemed expensive however the US Dollar was an all time low against the Euro so everyting seemed expensive.

It was clean, comfortable and warm enough for us California travelers.

Unique Quality: The hotel was around the corner from Harp Tavern on Quay Street where we listened to traditional Irish music and saw traditional Irish dancers.

We had dinner in the restaurant at the hotel and our stuffed chicken, with mash potatoes and vegetables was tastey, it was the rhubarb pudding that was to die for. We actually split a dinner and it was enough for two.

Authentic Irish Dancing

by Goner about The Harp Tavern

We lucked out, on Monday nights across the street from the Sligo City Hotel where we happened to be staying, is the Harp Tavern who has authentic Irish music. It's a lovely pub and dancers came in for a round of Irish dancing, not the Riverdance style, more a square dance with partners, so intricate and lively - we loved every minute of it.

Every Sunday (2008) at 1 p.m. the "Jazz Lads" play a unique style of Jazz and Blues.

Plenty of parking too. Everyone was dressed casually - mostly jeans.
