possibly the most spectacular castle in
Ireland. The Irish home of the Dukes of
Devonshire since 1748, the castle is
situated in a panoramic position
overlooking the Blackwater Valley,
with views over rolling wooded hills
to the Knockmealdown Mountains.
Lismore was built in the 12th century by King John. Subsequent
renovations took place in the early 17th century and in the 1840s.
The entrance is on the edge of the town of Lismore which is
steeped in history and has been designated a Heritage Town.
