Travel Tips for Enniscorthy

Stand your round

by vinegarhill1798

No, its nothing to do with fighting. If a local insists on buying you a drink its a gesture of friendliness and a prelude to conversation. It is impolite not to buy one in return even though they will say 'no'. Insist on leaving one 'behind the bar'. To avoid 'The Round' situation just politely say 'I'm driving' as drink-driving has become a taboo in a Country that up to recently where 'one for the road' was a must.

Enniscorthy Golf Club

by vinegarhill1798

Golf has become the most popular sport in the Country next to GAA sports. The success of several Irish golfers in International events such as Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy, Damien McGrane and Paul McGinley (2010 Ryder Cup Captain) to name but a few. The rise in society golf among rural communities has helped the spread of golf.
Enniscorthy golf course is set in the heart of the County and is the ideal location for to partake in a round or two of golf.

"Enniscorty the rebel town"

Most people just pass trough Enniscorthy on the way from Rosslare or Wexford to Dublin. Its a shame that most dont stop to look around. Enniscorthy is historically very important in Irish history. The 1798 rebellion against the British took place on Vinegar Hill which looms over the town. For more details on thsi please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Vinegar_Hill

Enniscorthy an the people there are some of the best people you could ever meet. The town itself if on the banks of the river slaney and it built on a very large hill. The castle in Enniscorthty is wort a visit. Also do go for a pint in the town there is a good pub called shanagans where there is always a good time to be had.
