If at first you don't succeed
by iandsmith
Ah yes, success. Thus we see Tancredi di Pentina's masterpiece, commissioned by Captain Lucchesino, governor in 1272. The high rose wall was supposedly built in the latter half of the 14th century.
Alternating with the figures are rosettes that were used estensively in Abruzzi architecture during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
L'Aquila

L'Aquila is a small city, at about one hour driving from Rome. It's not touristy and it's not very well known, but, and maybe because of that, it is a wonderful surprise for those who go there.
In the middle of the mountains of Abruzzo, it's main attraction is the castle, but the lovely little streets and squares, churches and fountains are delightful to discover.
