Campo Imperatore
Campo Imperatore is Mt. Gran Sasso plateau, we travelled along it by car. It's very large and it's impressive to drive under the rocky peaks of the Gran Sasso. We reached (by car) the mountain dew called "Duca degli Abruzzi", where Mussolini was kept as prisoner before Germans set him free during Second World War (2338 m). You can have many hikes around if you want, have a look: http://it.geocities.com/abruzzomount/RifDuca.htm (it's in italian at the moment, but there's a map).
After that we went to Santo Stefano di Sessanio (look my vt-page about it), a amazing rocky village just few kilometers far.
