Area in general

by genebeans

What area of Italy would you compare this to?Is two weeks far too long to spend in this area. I would really appreciate an overview of the area in general-Thanks-Gene

Re: Area in general

I would call it one step up from Livorno on the other side of the country. There is a very interesting folklore museum, nice beaches but not a lot to do. Definitely a beach town in the summer. If I had the choice I would spend one week in Pescara and the surrounding area(s); spend the second week in another location. If you have family in Pescara that is a different story.

Day trip to Tremiti Islands by Ferry

by CLillard

The Tremiti islands are made up of the islands of San Nicola, San Domino, and Capraia, this last is uninhabited and covered in Mediterranean vegetation. On the island of Domino, the largest of the Tremiti islands, there are many caves to visit, including the Grotta del Bue Marino.

TRANSPORTATION TO ISLANDS
We went there and back in 1 day. The ferry departed Termoli at 9 am and arrived at San Domino at 10 am. The return trip departed San Domino at 6 pm and arrived at Termoli at 7 pm. Motorway A14 - TERMOLI exit. Reach the port of Termoli where the car can be left in the car park nearby or in "Garage Interporto". It is not possible to take the car with you on the ferry. We felt a little sick on the ferry going there, but not on the way back (because of the way the wind/current was going).

You have to view the calendar on their website to determine what times the ferries depart. Ferry reservations are possible, but it is recommended to arrive at the port at least 45 minutes before departure because at least on weekends there will be a wait in line. We just bought our tickets that same morning, but it was on a Sunday in September (which is not high season).

WHAT TO DO ON ISLAND
-You can arrange a boat tour around the islands to see the many beautiful caves, but we didn't feel like it after the ferry ride.
-We rented mopeds to ride around the islands. $30/bike/day It was fun! You can either rent a small moped for 1 person or larger for 2 people. Ask around for "Jimmy Bike" in the tiny town center Phone 338.8970909 or 389.9604690.
-We also went to the little beach (its free if you don't rent a chair/umbrella) and went for a swim in the water.
-Make sure to take a picture from the viewpoint called "Punta Dello Spido" (as shown in my main picture for this tip).
-Eat a nice peaceful lunch in the town center
-Arrange for scuba diving

A newly born city

"Modern but confused"

Pescara has been established quite recently, only in 1927. Two half-town have been united by the Fascist regime while pieces of Aquila, Chieti and Teramo provinces have been cut out to shape a new province.
Pescara is now a modern place, though still paying the price of turbolent and unequal urban development.
