We were on a package holiday and stayed a week here on half board basis. A small hotel, one of several in Pescasseroli, which is also a winter resort.

Family run, by the former local mayor, with a reputation for good home cooking - we certainly had no complaints.
The rooms were of a good size - ideal as family rooms with modern bathrooms.
The food was certainly excellent - buffet continental breakfast and the four course dinners were also filling and varied.

There's a sunny garden to relax in and a swimming pool is being planned - a welcome addition in the hot summer months.

Comparison: less expensive than average

Directions: Most hotels are on the outskirst of the town -a lond road leading up to the ski-lift (seen on hill behind hotel), locally known as "Hotel Road". There are a couple of camp sites in this area too.

This is a lovely hotel, situated in the heart of the old town of Pescasseroli
Rooms are large, comfortable and clean.
Good base for lots of walks and handy for the shops and bars etc.

Food is probably the best Ive tasted although quite simple
Portions are fantastic!!
I was one of only a couple of people during the stay to get plenty of second helpings tho

Staff are lovely although they do struggle with English a little. Make a little effort to learn a bit of Italian before you go - it will be appreciated!!

Directions: In the Old Town, dont worry, its well signed!!

A very well kept lodge, just off the beaten path in Pescasseroli, Abruzzo. Only one member of the family speaks fluent English, but the entire family was a complete joy. Polished marble floors and nice views of the hills that surround the city, but on a back road that allows for some seclusion. Nestled in the middle of the Abruzzo National Park (Nel Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo).

Directions: Traveling from the North end of town, pass the main park square. Via Oppieto forks off to the left 100 m. from the square. Drive (or walk) 300 m. and it is located on the left.

I stayed in a cool little campground that also seemed to be some peoples' permanent residences, but it was right next to the B1 trailhead and just a short walk from the town. There's no camping in the park apparently, so this is as close as it gets to being away from things and still camping. It's also right next to a restaurant, but I didnt eat there when I stayed there. The staff was friendly and family-oriented, but it's pretty much necessary to speak Italian to get around.

The place is beautiful, and it's a totally serene atmosphere. Most hours of the day the only sound is the bells on the horses and sheep, which roam the countryside freely and even walk along the roads when they feel like it! The main bathroom was pretty nice, but the view from the camping spot had a ridiculous view of the huge mountains surrounding Pescasseroli (see picture). And as the lady at the desk said to me "E meglio con sole" (It's better when the sun's out)
