REGGIO AIRPORT TO MESSINA, THEN MILAZZO?

by slickpr66

I'm traveling with my elderly father who asked me to take him to his father's town, Milazzo, for one last visit as his health is not good. We have flights into Reggio de Calabria. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to get from Reggio Airport to Milazzo. Any ideas? Also, our plane comes in late at night and we would like to sleep the night nearby. Is there anything reasonalbe?

THANKS!!

I also have relatives in Milazzo. I flew from JFK into Rome, then transferred to a flight to Catania Airport. I took the Guinta Bus right at the aiport in Catania that takes you right into Milazzo. The bus ride is about 1-3/4 hrs. I found it very convenient to get to Milazzo from Catania airport. The bus leaves at 4 pm from Catania to Milazzo and at 8:00 or 8:30 (not sure) leaving Milazzo to go back to the airport.
I hope this information helps you.
Take care,
Diane

Travel Tips for Reggio di Calabria

Pizzo

by Leipzig

This pretty and picturesque town with medieval origin attracts with buildings and narrow lanes sloping down towards the sea. It is a popular seaside resort with wonderful cliffs.
There is a grot north of Pizzo, named "Piedigrotta" near this town. It is not allowed to use flash light in there but without it does not make sense to photograph. You can see a pic of the grot here. I took this photo from following webpage: http://www.calabriadamare.it/
I do not know Italian but as far as I understood the grot was once used as a church before it was flooded by the sea. In the meanwhile the water has withdrawn and you can enter.

Local Craftwork in Calabria

by lucetta

"Calabrians' Jasmine coast Craftwork"

Along the jasmine coast existing local crafts reflect a strong tie with the ancient Magna-Grecia; they include traditionally "hand-loomed fabrics", delightful woollen or silk blankets, or covers made from a texile obtained from the broom plant and decorated with ancient Greeck or Byzantine designs.
Vases and other objects are baked in the local potters'ovens.
Other interesting , original and to wear "souvenirs" are made from a best goldsmith of the jasmine coast named Guarnieri, that have make the original jewellery hause :"Artigiana Gioielli" , in Caulonia.

"Excursion in Calabrian Jasmin Riviera"

Your Stay in Jonic Jasmin Riviera, will afford you the opportunity to visite the many unique places the region has to offer.
In only half day you can pass from the sea to the mountain..or visiting the ancient medieval town of Gerace(know as the tiny Florenceof the south italy),the Bizhantine town of Stilo with the fameuse "Cattolica", Riace (the town of the bronzes), Locry Ephizephiry....

"Local festival and folklore"

In order to fully apprecciate the deep attachment "Calabrese" have to their old traditions, why not partecipate in a local festival?
from April to October there are many festivals dedicated to patron Saint, as well as costume balls, tarantella dances, processions and pageant..
