Budget Accommodation in Tropea

by jasminedew19

Hi,

I'd like to spend anywhere from 3-5 days in Tropea at the end of August. I know this is high season, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of any budget accommodation? I've tried searching on the internet and the cheapest I can find is close to 100 euros a night. Are there also budget alternatives for backpackers? I'm still a student, and I am not fussy about comfort or a nice room. I'm happy with basic accommodation, all I'd like is a bed and place to shower. Someone once told me about the possibility of staying in convents for cheap - is this possible?

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much,
Jasmine

I'm planning on going in September as well, and have looked at hostelworld.com
Its amazing and I found a place for 30 Euro a night for single accomadations at Hotel Village Eden. I'm not sure why its so cheap as on other sites staying at this hotel is close to 150 a night? lol.. Anyways you can find some good places on there geared specifically for budget travellers.

Camping may be a cleaner, quieter and better option. In regards to why is Village Eden not expensive at 30 E, because it is cold and low season, try getting that price in AUgust!

Travel Tips for Tropea

Local products

by ludogatto

Tropea is famous worldwide for some of its products, such as red Tropea onion, a wonderfull onion that is present in almost all the local cuisine.

Tropea you can not leave without having tasted its best:

Fileja, hand made pasta, often seasoned with tomato sauce, or with 'nduja and with Monte Poro cheese on top.

Mount Poro pecorino, sheep's milk cheese DOP (Denominazione origin),

'Nduja of Spilinga, creamy sausage with chilli, very spicy, carefully spread on bread or to be used in the preparation of local dishes

olive oil

liquorice liquor glycyrrhizina.

Amaro del Capo: It's made of herbs, about thirty, such as the licorice, mint, bitter orange, anise and various citrus, it's a good digester and energizer. The liquor have dark color, with a sweet almond taste and a aftertaste from the rich herbaceous aromas

....... but Tropea and its territory offers many other products .... you can find many explanations on several local websites, also translated into English
