Seafood surprises
by lewatts
Be aware that if you order seafood it will probably come to your table with its head still on. If you are not used to your food looking at you while you eat, this may be a surprise. Some dishes came with a large crustacean as decoration, looking as though he might just crawl off your plate.

Flip-flops for the rocky beaches. Towel/sarong because those rocks get HOT! Hat and/or sunglasses. SUNSCREEN!!!! Lots of film, because the scenery is spectacular. Thermarest for sleeping on the rocky beaches. Tent & toilet paper for the campsites.
Ferriere Valley

Continuing up stairs from the Valle dei Mulini we enter the Ferriere Valley with its terracesd lemon groves and gardens and sweeping views up to the the Lattari Mountains. You can continue up to Pontone and Scala - we did this walk in the other direction as we were based in Scala.
The Cathedral
by myriam_c
The Cathedral of Amalfi is made of two communicating churches, a crypt, an atrium, a tower and a cloister.
The first part of this complex dates back from the 9th century. All that is actually left from this first part is a few columns and probably three arches. These last ones have been remodeled in the 14th century. Further remodelings have been going on until the 1800's.
The whole church is a mix of styles: Moorish, Norman and Gothic. Not to forget the bell tower that is Romanesque and dates back from the 12th century. Its green and yellow glazed tiles are very much in contrast with the black and white church.
The Cloister that is part of the church - Chiostro del Paradiso - is decorated with beautiful Moorish arches.
Grotta Esmeralda

A dramatic sea-level cavern with dazzling green light effects taken when the light of the sun comes through its tunnel, is only reachable by boat. This famous spot is located in Conca dei Marini. Boats go from the main pier at Amalfi. But since our homebase was in Praiano, so, we rented a boat from there with a guide.
