More about Residenza Del Duca
the best hotel!
like most people who have stayed here we thought this hotel was wonderful! there are a few stairs to climb but i think that most people would not have a problem getting back and forth. this hotel was one of the cleanest hotels i've ever seen! our room looked like it was recently re-done everything was brand new. there was even a spa shower! the breakfast was very nice and they have a lovely terrace where guests can enjoy their breakfast. i also thought the staff was very nice and helpful. she gave us a tip on going to ravello which ended up to be a great day trip!!
A little gem!!
If you like small & friendly, attentive staff and a great location, then this is the hotel for you. Our room was spacious and immaculate, both in decor and cleanliness, with a french balcony overlooking a local square. Staff were happy to provide tea and cappuccinos on request and breakfast for an early start. They were enthusiastic with information on how to get the best out of the area e.g. local hikes, buses and boats. The steps up to the reception (and indeed the local area generally) may provide a challenge for those with walking or breathing difficulties but we managed OK even with heavy colds!!
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting an "authentic" experience of the Amalfi coast.
very friendly, good location
We stayed at Residenza del Duca in May. The location is great, right in the heart of Amalfi. The only 2 negatives about the location are the numerous steps you need to go up to get to the inn (especially with luggage) and the fact that town's clock bells that start at 7 a.m. and are quite loud. They will definitely wake you up at this hotel each morning and ring every 15 minutes. The hotel itself is very well maintained and the owners are so nice and helpful. Daniella was particularly nice. Our room was the smallest, I think, and even though it was small, it didn't bother us much because we weren't there too much. The breakfast each morning was nice, but it was the same food each day. By our 4th night, we were hoping for something different. Overall, it was very nice, great location, great people there. It was also a good bargain.
Wonderful Hotel Run by Lovely Family
Just returned from Amalfi and cant say enough positive things about this hotel and the people who run it. It is in a great central location in the town of Amalfi, small (only about 6 rooms) but very very clean and is run by a lovely family, all of whom are extremely pleasant, helpful and accomodating. The only negative thing I can point out is the stairs getting up to the hotel can be quite difficult, especially with heavy luggage, but the family is more than willing to help you get your stuff up to your room. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you are on a bit of a budget. We were served a quaint little breakfast and coffee every morning on the terrace overlooking the square down below. It was a lovely experience!
Believe the perfect scores!
You can absolutely believe the perfect 5's you are about to see rating this little gem of a hotel. We stayed there May 26 and 27, 2007. The very QUIET, clean, in the heart of historic Amalfi, with very modern bathroom hotel has one of the nicest helpful staffs we encountered in Amalfitana. They all speak fluent english. Nice breakfast on the veranda...two minutes from Da Gemma and La Caravella. What more could one ask for?
What a great hotel!!
My sister-in-law and I stayed at this wonderful hotel in June 2007. While the steps up to the hotel can be daunting, especially with bags, almost any hotel you stay at in Amalfi will be the same way. Once we made it to the office, we found the staff very warm and welcoming, and the room charming. I believe they would have carried our bags up had we asked.
Our view was wonderful, looking out toward the sea and over rooftops of colorful Italian buildings. In the evening, we closed up all the doors, closed the curtains, turned down the air conditioning, and found ourselves having a very quiet, cool, dark room in which to deeply sleep. We never noticed the church bells (or guests in other rooms) until we opened the balcony doors in the morning, and then we welcomed the bells as they made us feel like part of the town.
Breakfast on the terrace was a wonderful experience with the owners working very hard to accommodate, including bringing me a pot of expresso and a pitcher of steamed milk so I could make cafe lattes. I noticed someone else in another review mentioning that breakfast was always the same thing, but that is the traditional Italian breakfast. You need to stay in an American-style hotel to find your eggs and bacon!
I highly recommend this hotel as well as the town of Amalfi, which is such a warm, loving Italian town. It was the highlight of our Italian trip!
Brilliant hotel in a beautiful town
My boyfriend and I just returned from a fantastic stay at the Residenza del Duca.
We stayed in the room called the Maria (Ducissa) - it was big, very clean and beautifully decorated with a little balcony. Very effective but quiet air conditioning and a little fridge that was useful for storing some pre-dinner prosecco or delicious ham from one of the delis in the town.
The hotel is in a great location right in the centre of town but without overlooking any noisy streets. The steps are tiresome but everything else about the hotel fully outweighs this and in a town set on a hillside there are steps everywhere.
Breakfasts on the roof terrace were lovely with some delicious fruit, lovely fresh bread and croissants, and even Twinings tea! The staff were always very helpful and friendly. All in all a fantastic hotel which I can't recommend enough!
On a slight aside, we also loved Amalfi and would recommend the Marina Grande restaurant - it's in a lovely setting on the beach (and if you book you can get an outside table) and the whole dinner was fantastic.
We arrived at the Residenza del Duca after a long train journey from Sicily and were given a warm greeting followed by cappucinos brought to our room. The family who run this hotel are amazingly friendly and
helpful without being intrusive. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the bathrooms are furnished with jacuzzi showers and tiles from Vietri. Breakfasts were taken on the terrace and included pastries, fresh fruit, coffee, cakes and juices. Considering the reasonable price and great location this small hotel was excellent value. The steps are a challenge but it gives you a chance to burn some calories
after all that pasta and ice cream! Highly recommended.
We have just returned from our honeymoon in Italy and spent the first week in Amalfi staying at the Residenza del Duca. The hotel was small, family-run and we had a wonderful stay there. Daniella gave us a very warm welcome. Our room was spacious, light and airy and very clean with an excellent shower. Breakfast consisted of an excellent buffet coupled with large cappuccinos made by Gerardo and served on a wonderful outside terrace. All staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The hotel is very centrally located, and you can easily walk to everywhere in the town. The restaurants recommended by Andreas were all excellent. We had pre dinner drinks on the terrace every evening - we provided the drink and Gerardo provided nibbles! All in all this was a wonderful place to spend a week and we will definitely return.
Fantastic family-run hotel
The hotel organised our taxi from the airport and were on hand to meet it in Amalfi at 11 o'clock at night, even providing drinks on arrival! They were always on hand to help, but never got in the way. Early breakfast (and unrequested alarm call) provided for the trip to Pompeii and breakfast in general was lovely.
The rooms were big and airy, well maintained and cooled with airconditioning. There are a number of stairs up to the hotel, but I was warned of this before booking.
A fantastic place.
