Chairlift

by NKSETHI

How long does the chairlift journey take one way?
Thanks

Re: Chairlift

10-15 minutes

Re: Chairlift

It is wonderful - don't miss it! Rather primative, by US chairlift standards, single seats, flimsy bar, but what a blast! I loved watching the fanstastic scenery pass by as we climbied. Watch for the yards and small gardens. And once you are at the top...wow.
Those who are returning from the top pass you quietly and they come down. You will see a variety of emotions - my smile was ear to ear - but not everyone enjoys the journey.
Enjoy - I loved it!

Travel Tips for Capri

Which Cruise is Best

by bijel

The Cruise - the Blue Grotto - is the best part of this trip, and is worth the money you pay to enter it.

You might be able to skip the rest of the sights, and just go straight for the Blue Grotto, if you'd like to save a bit of cash. It's best to prepare cash (the exact amount for the entrance to the Blue Grotto) for this trip, because you might get wet, and if you do, it's best not to have your money on you. Well, it's best not to have anything with you. If you've a camera, bring your Ziploc bag to put it in. You don't want to miss the sights, but you don't want your camera ruined.

We think Capri dell' Isola is the better cruise company, although one would see Laser Capri once one walks off the boat at the pier. It's a longer trip, and the departures are more frequent. Besides, it's right next to the tourist office - in case one gets bored waiting for the boat to depart.

It's much better going on the cruise to go into the Blue Grotto because overland transport is confusing - and you know what maps are like in Italy. The Blue Grotto, the Blue Grotto and the Blue Grotto.

You have to go there. It's expensive, but you have to go there.

The experience is hilarious, and special.

Punta Cannone

by iandsmith

To get there you need to initially aim for Piazza Umberto on the main road and then take the laneways beside the church.
Proceeding along Via Castello, you will pass by villas which were once owned by artists and lovers of the Island of Capri.
At one stage you'll pass a villa where Mussolini's daughter lives today.
I arrived before dawn, hence the weird light in some of the shots. I had the whole area to myself, except for one person collecting some rubbish. The old walls were telling me a tale or romance and money, of an island once owned by the near poor but now dominated by the rich-beyond-belief. Finally you'll get to the Punta Canone viewpoint which owes its name to the cannon placed here during the British occupation of 1808.
From here the vista sweeps across the open sea, over the Faraglioni, Monte Tuoro, Tragara and the Charterhouse of St Giacomo, the Gardens of Augustus, Via Krupp and the bay of Marina Piccola.

Leave Your Luggage

by TRimer

At your arrival at the Port of Capri (Marina Grande), leave your luggage to the porters who will send it to the hotel. It will cost you around 6 euro to have them bring your luggage and they just add it to your hotel bill. This leaves you the freedom to come up to the center of town by cable car or taxi.

The Walk to Ocean from Lookout

by Mikebb

Walk through the town centre towards the other side of the isle and you will see some beautiful houses and gardens and within 5 minutes you will arrive at a lookout very high above the ocean. The view from here shows the steep drop down the cliff face to the rocky sea front many hundreds of feet below. Just looking over the edge gave me weak legs and i wanted to step back. To the right side you will see a roadway winding its way up the cliff face, I believe it is closed to traffic but you can walk it, however unless you are extremely fit do not attempt to as there is a good chance you will not be able to walk back.

Staring at the Beautiful Island

by funnyl

Just open your eyes wide and take in the beauty of the scenery in the whole island, be it the landing, the roads, the houses, the greenery, climbing the rocks, the uphill roads, stare and stare and stare
