A One Star Gem

Don't be fooled by the one-star rating - this a smart, clean and functional family-run hotel, overlooking the St. Giacoma monastery. It's also close the Piazzetta but just far enough out of the way to be shielded from the day-tripper rabble.

Unique Quality: Friendly, warm and accommodating service.

More about Hotel La Tosca

An oasis a Capri

by TripAdvisor Member sjusjøen

I would highly recommend La Tosca."Far" away from jet set, diamonds, haute couture at la Piazzetta;though only 5 min walk away if you should want to have a night cup there and watch the spetaccolo. At night you will be finding a nice and more relaxed athmosphere there,at the piazzetta.Although longing for the nice walk home to"La Tosca",turning to the right,up the stairs beside the Trussardishop, longing for the narrow streets, meeting Capri people to or fro job;"buon pomeriggio, buona sera,ò notte??"La Tosca gives you the best athmosphere, friendliness, simple living, nice rooms(white walls, typical italian(good)taste in surroundings. You could even bring you mother-in law there,or your boss without feeling embarassed. If you are planning well you even get a room with a terrace. But remember;people are coming back year after year;this place is a hidden secret.

An Immaculate Hotel with 5-Star Service!

by TripAdvisor Member cicchetticj

We've just returned from a 10 day vacation to Italy and had the opportunity to stay at Hotel La Tosca for a few days. This place is a gem! Hotel La Tosca is centrally located in Capri Town. Hotel staff are welcoming, English speaking, and very helpful! Our room was immaculate, bright and spacious. Breakfast (included...) was served on a sun-lit patio with great views!

In our opinion, Hotel La Tosca offers a wonderful accomodation with 5-star service at a reasonable rate.

We will certainly visit Hotel La Tosca again...! Try it for yourselves!

A Hidden Gem!

by TripAdvisor Member Qmis

I spent 3 fantastic days on the island of Capri while staying at this great hotel. The staff are extremely helpful and courteous and the service is top-notch, especially for such a bargain price. The rooms are lovely and decorated in a simple but contemporary style. I'm an experienced, international single traveler and highly recommend a stay at La Tosca.

the owner was a sweetheart!

by TripAdvisor Member HarrietJ

The hotel is very clean, newly renovated with a quiet outdoor area to have breakfast in and to talk to the other friendly visitors from around the world. Although in easy walking distance from the central area of Capri Hotel Tosca is on a quiet street away from the main tourist attractions and overlooking private gardens. and the sea. The owner speaks English very well and is a totally helpful and very sweet man. He recommended restaurants , told us where to get the best sandwich for our hike to Anacapri and even called over to find us a hotel in Naples. And very reasonable also. A bargain!

We stayed at La Tosca based on other Trip Advisor reviews. It was wonderful, clean, convenient, and quiet. Our view was over the ocean,
the flowers were in bloom. What a value and a real find for the Isle of Capri. The staff and owner are terrific.

Great little hotel!

by TripAdvisor Member sdauerbach

This charming hotel was really our favorite in our recent trip to Italy. Ettore Castelli, the owner, lives part of the year in the USA,
and his hospitality made our stay very enjoyable. Capri is just beautiful, and if you get away from the shopping areas and enjoy the walks and boating available, one can imagine being here in a different era. This hotel is clean, well located, and the staff are all friendly and helpful. We hope to stay there again in the future. Booking is direct with the hotel, and the first night must be paid in advance. This is a minor inconvenence, offset by the good value and great ambiance. One star??? Better than most 3 star hotels.

Simply gorgeous

by TripAdvisor Member Ramsden

What a lovely little hotel. It's just an amazing find on a generally overpriced island, and in a fantastic, peaceful location 5 mins from the piazetta with amazing views over the Faraglioni rocks. Our room was very simple - white walls, comfy bed. We had no TV which I adored although my husband missed it a little bit. Breakfast (croissants, rolls and jam, coffee and tea) was served on the lovely, peaceful terrace outside and it was just a lovely start to the day. There was a real sense of peace in this hotel though and I felt incredibly relaxed, content and happy staying here. The owner and staff were all very friendly and kind and recommended an AMAZING hike for us over to Anacapri which was literally the highlight of our entire week's holiday in Italy.

Capri is just amazing, I adored it. But I only adored it when we got away from the crowds either by the fairly tough hike we took or once the boats had taken away the day trippers when it becomes a completely different island!!! We ate in 'Capri's restaurant' on via Roma which was very nice indeed and, at the recommendation of the Tosca's owner, in the Pulalli (not sure I have the name right), a fabulous (but very reasonable) restaurant literally under the clock on the main square where the pasta al limone was the best meal of the week. Hugely recommended. All in all, a fabulous little hotel and AMAZING value on this over priced but glorious island.

Loved La Tosca

by TripAdvisor Member NCRookie

My wife and I spent two nights at La Tosca and absolutely loved it, Ettore was a more than gracious host and helped us with good suggestions of how to plan our time on Capri! The rooms were clean, and although our room did not have a view, it was perfect especially since we were traveling on a budget. The only downside was the little noise that carried in from outside in the hallway, making it difficult to sleep in late in the morning, which was ok since we were excited to explore the island. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip and recommend it to anyone looking for a good room in a great location and a wonderful, friendly host!

Stellar Hospitality

by TripAdvisor Member dktravel

My wife and I stayed two nights in May 2007. What we loved about La Tosca was the wonderful hospitality of the owner, Ettore. He provided service you just can't get at a chain hotel.

First, the hotel. It's clean, simple and comfortable and affordable (110 Euros) considering the way over-the-top hotels on the island. The location, a few minutes' walk from the main piazza, is quiet. One of the highlights was the simple breakfast (croissants, coffee) while sitting on the common deck with a partial view overlooking the ocean.

As for Ettore, he was so gracious in helping us when we learned that due to the sudden illness of a family member that we would have to fly home early. He let us use the Internet from his desk and telephone. He was willing to do whatever he could to help us.

Prior to that, he provided spot-on recommendations, including a delicious dinner (actually, two) at a great restaurant overlooking the piazza. We also followed his recommendation to see the sun set at the lighthouse in Anacapri (priceless!).

Hopefully we'll return to Capri. And if we do, we'll definitely stay at La Tosca.
