The Belvedere Tragara is another spot that is well worth a visit.
After admiring the wonderful view of the Faraglioni you could visit some of the beautiful caves located in the vicinity: the Grotta di Forca and the Grotta di Porto Tragara.

traveling to Capri

by mtcu22

I'm going to be in Rome in late November and am looking to travel to Capri for a couple nights. What is the best way to get from Rome to Capri and how much will it typically cost? Any suggestions help. Thank you.

Depends on how much you are willing to spend. There will be others later that will give you more economical options, but my tours (i was a tour Director), were always on the expensive side. Here are a few things the way they were done in my universe. The hotel I am most familiar with is the incomprable Hotel tragara, which sits on the most beautiful spot on the island, overlooking the Farglioni rocks.

Here are some ways to get there from Rome. Like I said, it is on the expensive side.......if it is too costly, at least it will give you a perspective, once you get other suggestions.

There are also boat tours to Capri available from Napoli. Trains to Napoli from Rome are relatively simple, but out of my non-updated knowledge.

Hope this helps somewhat....don't worry, others will chime in when they wake up........d:o)

Have woken up.......

Easiest way to get to Capri from rome without paying a fortune for an organised tour is to first take the train from Rome Termini to Napoli Centrale station. Train times, details and fares in English here:

http://www.trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html

Journey time is 1h10m on the faster trains, one-way fare 44 euro.

Once in Naples, get bus or taxi to Molo Beverello dock and take the ferry or hydrofoil to Capri. Ferry timetables, carriers and fares here:

Capri is a very expensive place to stay. Check what is available on www.venere.com which is a reliable site listing almost all Italan hotels (and some b&bs/apartments too). Venere has honest guest reviews and good mapping, and will take no money from you as long as you turn up for your booking.

If you find staying on Capri too expensive, consider staying in Sorrento and taking a daytrip to the island instead. You can easily get to Sorrento by taking the cheap, frequent Circumvesuviana train from Napoli Garibaldi station (next door to Napoli Centrale, well-signed). Ferry and hydrofoil info for Sorrento>Capri on the link above.

Leics, November is sort of low season in Capri, no? The poster is likely to find better rates at that time of the year?

Re: traveling to Capri

Erm......well...lower than in high season, yes. But still expensive, imo.

Capri was pretty busy both times I visited in Feb.
