The beach in the Marina Piccola
by pili
It´s more elegant and charming than Marina Grande.- It´s situated in the other side of the island. In spite of the stones, it´s a good beach for sunbathing.-
Marina Piccola es más elegante y más coqueta que la Marina Grande. Está situada al otro lado de la isla, en posición simétrica. Tiene una muy linda plaza, donde, pese a las piedras, se puede tomar sol y nadar en el mar.-
Untidy farmers.......
by leics
.....I was just really pleased to see what's in the photo. Farmers are, in my experience, not especially tidy folk and even on pristine, twee Capri here was a pile or two of typical farm 'junk' left lying around.
It made the island and its community a bit more 'real' to me. There is an ordinary, everyday working life going on here despite the exclusive shops and the perfect gardens and the secluded villas. That was good to find out.
Headed to Capri--Try the Hydrofoil
by VeronicaG
Our excursion package called for arriving in Capri by Hydrofoil, so all was taken care of by the Voyager of the Seas.
I must say it was a smooth crossing, but I took my Bonine just in case. One could select inside or outside seating, most chose the latter. The seats inside were arranged in rows of two and three.
The journey across the sea took about 50 minutes. For ferry and hydrofoil info. go to the websites below where you'll find the various jumping off points and times.
Views from the Gardens of Augustus
by Ekahau
The Gardens of Augustus is now a park that belongs to the town of Capri. It is a beautiful garden and has very interesting history. About 30 years BCE Caesar Augustus came here and fell in love with the place. Doing what any self respecting Caesar would do he took over the Island and spent a lot of time here eating grapes peeled for him by beautiful babes (just seeing if I had your attention).
Anyway, his successor, Tiberius really loved the place and built twelve villas (one for each variety of grapes that could be peeled for you) than to ease his totally toga decedent party soul he name them after twelve Roman Gods. It was from the largest and most beautiful ville the “villa Jovis he ruled the world. The guy never went to Rome.
The gardens as you see them now were built by the Krupp family the German industrialists and they gave it to the people of Capri.
Capri : Shop like a movie star
by BorneoGrrl
Central Capri has a list of luxury boutiques you find in a major city like Paris, Rome & London. These boutiques line the narrow streets from the Piazzetta and you can find Ferragamo, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Prada and the list goes on. Besides designer brands, you can also find Italian jewelery & perfume stores which are great
You needn't walk far from one shop to the next so you'll exhaust you credit cards before you do your feet. There are other shops where you can go in and look for locally made items, mostly souvenirs and limoncello.
