In 18th century every monarch that had a minimum of self-respect had to build himself a VERSAILLES. Of course better and richer than the original. So this impressive one owes its creation to the desire of Charles Bourbon, then king of Naples, who decided on his construction in 1752. On its own, the palace is really impressive and the perspective of the gardens with its lenghth of 3km is a magnificent sight.
The Throne Room is the largest room in the real Apartments. For approximately a century it remained without decorations, neglected both from the French kings and from Ferdinand IV when it returned after the Restoration.
This is one of the loveliest section of the park: the English Gardens, embellished with a tiny lake and fake ancient ruins.
Take care that the English Garden closes one hour earlier than the big Gardens.
Caserta, a town north and east of Naples, is the home of a Bourbon palace. Parts were used and digitally enhanced for the palace of Queen Amidala in the Star Wars prequels. Reality is far more impressive than the virtual version.
