Monastery overlooking the island
quite small rooms without air conditioning. Great atmosphere, with a lots of history. The hotel is situated on the castle.
A lift reached by a tunnel in the rock of the island takes you up to the Castello (there are steps too). Discreet signs bring you to the locked door of the pensione, and a ring on the bell summons the amiable padrone. Up a final flight of stairs and at last you are there. Paintings hang on the plain walls of the hallway and the neat little sitting room. Bedrooms, white with blue tiles, are the former monks’ cells and correspondingly simple; some are reached from the spacious terrace, which gives a breathtaking view of the town and the island.
