General Info about Naples Accomodation

Anyone willing to stay in a Naples or Italian hotel shd consult or contact the official Tourist Board at first: http://www.inaples.it or tel. (081) 252-5711. They have a list of all hotels and official rates - hotels are not allowed to deviate from this rate scheme, however, sometimes they try to charge touris a higher price! Cheap hotels surround Piazza Garibaldi in front of the train station - avoid this area, because it is somewhat seedy and rather noisy at night. A better option are backpackers' hostels and private B&B's.
Hostels charge in between 18 and 30 Euros per bed and night. A list of Naples hostels is to be found at http://www.the-backpacking-site.com/hostels/italy-hostels/naples.html -
Avoid the noisy and overbusy official IYH hostel above Mergellina station (tel. (081) 761-2346. I have stayed in a cosy hostel called "6 Small Rooms" near Piazza Carità, which is run by Australians http://www.at6smallrooms.com - Try also Hostel of the Sun http://www.hostelnapoli.com - If they are full, they refer you to another cheap place. They have self-catering facilities such as most B&B's, so that one can go shopping in the street market and prepare one's own fresh food.
Those who want to have their own room beyond the rock bottom budget section can opt for private Bed and Breakfast pensions. We struck a good deal in an art deco B&B in the quiet and safe Vomero hill district on top of Naples (B&B Alba, http://www.bedbreakfastalba.it ) - A list of private B&B's can be found on the offical site of the tourist info. There are also some networks which can be booked online. Most owners can speak English.

Unique Quality: B&B's and hostels allow you to make contact with locals and other travellers, get insider infos and warnings, and allow you to buy and prepare your own meals. They usually are also equipped with a small travel library and flyers for travel infos.

A Place in the Heart of Napoli

After you have made your way up the long flight of stairs you will possibly discover that "6 Small Rooms" is full, however there is no dispare since they offer budget accommodation at a sister hostel several blocks away. This other establishment is run by Giavani Berardi. Here it was my intention of spending just two nights, but I soon realized as a warey traveller a good thing and decided to stay four night in total, and was not happy on leaving. It is a wonderful place to stay and one is made to feel really at home in due respect for the space - infact it is Giavani's home. He has three dorms and a twin self contained apartment up stairs suitable for couples.

Unique Quality: The roof terrace and if you behave your self Giavani may cook you a delicious meal.
