I will be in Naples in mid Sept - where is the best area to book hotel - a safe place to walk around in the evenings. and is there a site where one can see which buses/metro to take to certain places like Pompei etc? Thanks

Naples is a great city for shopping, there are markets located around Piazza Garibaldi which sell everything really cheaply. I found the shoes great value. The only thing is try not to look like a tourist - dont carry a handbag and if you do hold onto it for dear life and keep you wallet in your front pocket with both hands planted in your pockets aswell!
We stayed near the Piazza Garibaldi and did not realise it until we arrived that we were in a very rough area. As soon as 6 pm arrived the whole place took on a different atmosphere with gangs hanging around on street corners.
If you are travelling to Naples stay in one of the larger hotels located near the seafront as you will be in a brighter better place and near all the best shops and sights. Shopping for great shoes on Via Umberto
Sort of a sport tip, but more for the gamblers

The Ippodromo Agnano is the horse track for Naples, and has races quite regularly. It's also quite common to see a horse carriage riding down the street in the vicinity of the track.
Near the track is located the famous Terme, or baths. I've spent a night in the Terme Hotel, and it is a beautiful area. Naples even has a bus stop on the C6 bus to the Terme, which for a Naples Bus means something. Binoculars, Money (if betting), and a camera - for you are sure to see some Napolitan charm come to life here.
Very Good Restaurant Near The National Museum

Homely Osteria where the owner is also the chef. 8 tables only. Excellent service. We were lucky to be accepted although the late hour (15.30) after finishing the visit at the museum.
Daily changing menu based on fresh products. We were delighted . It's difficult to choose, since everything was good, but the dessert "cassata alla napoletana" was really outstanding.

Duomo: The Naples cathedral

The Duomo is fantastic, and is really a huge tribute to San Gennaro, the saint who is said to have saved the city from a cholera epidemic. It is a very big church, and no photography is allowed whatsoever. Well, I did take quite a few pictures, but I'd recommend being discreet if you choose to.

Q: Train from sorrento to naples and then to rome "Can someone please tell me when arriving from sorrento to Naples by train will I be coming in on the lowest level of the train..."
A: "Very easy. There are signs to guide you. As for time between trains it depends on te departure of your train to Rome. Te walk is under 3-5 minutes."
