had a lovely week at this hotel,food good and varied.we had a room on the third floor and views over the bay of naples and the pool.nice room with good size balcony.as we went in june tge 20min walk to sorrento was ok,guess july and august would be too hot to walk every day as we did.would certainly come back to this hotel.
My wife and I both had a great time at the Caravel Hotel in Sorrento. The rooms were nice and the hotel is located right in the middle of town and we were able to walk everywhere (e.g. beach, restaurants, etc). The service was excellent as the staff was knowledgable and friendly. The food was also great authentic Italian cuisine. Overall we would highly recommend it.
Sorrento is a nice city with a lot of possibilties for trips to Naples, Capri, Pompei, etc. The hotel is situated outside the busy centre and is therewith a good place to relax after a trip. In the evening the hotel offers entertainment, but it was also nice to go out in the centre. The food was great and the hotel offers different menu's per day.
We spent 9 days in Caravel and truly enjoyed our stay. The first impression when arriving was the calm neighborhood and the clean lobby. Our room was quite small with a fridge, small balcony and bathroom with a bathtub. The bed was wider than we thought, and the small roomsize didn't bother considering that we didn't spend that much time in it.
Walking to the center of Sorrento took about 25 min which was okay (and sweaty in the day) and especially in the evening when it was cooler it was beautiful to walk back to the hotel and get a nice little exercise after a tasty dinner. We used the free hotel courtesy bus almost every day which took us 2/3 of the distance to the city. The bus traveled at a bit odd times but otherwise it functioned very well. The hotel pool was a nice place to relax on a hot day, the water was chilly and it was possible to take a decent swim.
The hotel staff behaved very well and was always kind and eager to help. The waiters in the hotel restaurant was charming and also very kind. We ate dinner only once (2 courses for 18 euro, special offer for hotel customers) which tasted excellent and the breakfast was good sufficient even for those who like a big breakfast with egg, bacon, lots of serials, different bread and excellent coffee and cappucino.
All tours to Naples, the Amalfi coast, Capri, Pompeii and Vesuvius we did on our own with a couple of tourist guides. If you don't want to miss Grotta Azurro on Capri, go there in the morning while it's still open. To Naples, Pompeii and Vesuvius it's easiest to travel with the Circumvesuviana train, which is cheap and frequent. The local buses also go quickly to capo di sorrento and to the Amalfi and Positano, which is nice and has a public beach.
From the Capodichino airport there is a Curreri bus which leaves just outside the airport doors and costs 10 euros. It's very convenient and the walk from Sant'agnello center to the hotel was about 5-10 min.
I wish I could remember more tips for all travelling to Sorrento, but I can say it's really worth it, the hotel was excellent and the city amazing with beautiful views over the bay of naples and vesuvius, pure streets with friendly design shops and an warm atmosphere in the evening when the streets were crowded and the city was lighted after the dark fell.
Returned 2 days ago. 10 people of all ages 2 at 15 2 at 16 1 at 79 and inbetween. All loved the food I'm a coeliac no problem. Service from everyone was great the secret to Hotel Caravel is.... the owner is allways around. Not far from the beech but if you want a sun bed down there it will cost you a tener for the day. 10 minutes from Sorrento what a place especialy at night. I asked the teenagers for points out of ten they said 11. I think it should be ranked a 5 star. You have to go there. John.

Q: Train from sorrento to naples and then to rome "Can someone please tell me when arriving from sorrento to Naples by train will I be coming in on the lowest level of the train..."
A: "Very easy. There are signs to guide you. As for time between trains it depends on te departure of your train to Rome. Te walk is under 3-5 minutes."
