I'd stay two days plus a day to Pompeii and Herculano
I'd stay in Sorrento and make my daytrips to Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Villa Poppaea, Capri, Amalfi, Positano and Ravello from there. :-)
Much easier and much more pleasant than being based in Naples itself, imo.

hm, I'll follow Leics suggestion but it's seems it's not only for a long weekend, and I'll need more time for all these nice daytrips. I have 3-4 days during easter so probably I'll stay in Greece this time.

Agree that you need more than a long weekend to see 'everything' in that area. I've been twice (4 nights each time_) and still have a heck of a lot to see.

I'd still stay in Sorrento verses Naples, if you can.
it's just that Alitalia has some nice offers with direct flights Athens>Naples but I was in Rome for New Years Eve so I can live without Italy for a while :)

Funny - I was visiting a friend in New York this weekend, and when we weren't trying to plan a trip to Italy, because I didn't quite see all I wanted to see last time, we were talking about how I want to go to Mykonos before I get a little too old for the party scene that seems to be there.
The last (and first time) I went to Naples was over a four-day weekend, in August (and the friend I went with turned out to be a hot mess) - but I was still able to see that I would love to return to the city... albeit either alone or with a better travel partner.
one million days isn't enough in Naples and the area!
there is more art in Naples, than Rome and Florence!!!
Pompei ruins:
during the eruption of the Vesuvio of 24 august of the 79 A.C Pompei was buried completely and definitively from one driven in rain of lapilli.
Pompei is easy raggiungibile in train, Circumvesuviana from Napoli center it takes about 30
minutes. The Amphitheatre of Pompei is the oldest of those we know from the Roman world. It was built after the foundation of the settlement 80 B.C
Local sports in Naples include sailing in the bay. What more splendid way to view the city, with all its castles and the towering Vesuvio. For the more ordinary visitor, the boats make for charming additions to the view of the bay.
This stretch of highway is the throughfare in Napoli. It's much easier to take the "Tange" as we call it, than navigate through the city. Yes there is horrible traffic on the Tange at times, but at least you'll get there. Be careful, as people are very inconsiderate here, and will not hesitate to cut you off.
The sandard fare is always .65 cents euro. The tange starts where the A1 Autostrade meets with it in the east and slices through Naples west past Agnano.
Pay careful attention around the toll booths as drivers will do anything to jockey for position.
The ruins of Pompei are very near the city of Naples, just take the Circumvesuviana train to Scavi di Pompei.
The area is huge so you might want to hire a guide (possibility to do this on site) or at least take a map of the area with you.
This ornamental column of the Blessed Virgin stands in Piazza del Gesu and dates from 1750. Its construction was made possible thanks to a collection of funds from the people, organised by the Jesuit father Francesco Pepe. At the top stands a statue in gilded copper of the Immacolata, dating from 1753. Every year on 8th December, the feast of the "Immacolata", firemen place a wreath of flowers at the statue's feet, at the top of the column.

Q: Train from sorrento to naples and then to rome "Can someone please tell me when arriving from sorrento to Naples by train will I be coming in on the lowest level of the train..."
A: "Very easy. There are signs to guide you. As for time between trains it depends on te departure of your train to Rome. Te walk is under 3-5 minutes."
