getting to the metro del mare from a Royal Caribbean dock

by sammyk

Hi, Can anyone tell me how to get to the place to get on the Metro del Mare from the docks that Royal Caribbean would be in port at. Also, does the hydrofoil run directly to Positano? We want to go there then take one back to Sorrento for lunch then the train on to Herculaneum. We are also wanting to go to the top of Mt. Vesuvius. Think this can be done in a day at port?
Thanks for your help.

When are you going? The Metro del Mare doesn't run all year.

Hi Jetgirly, We are going to be there on October 10 of this year. Do they run then? I know that it seems like a lot to do in the time we have I just want to see if it is even possible. We may have to eliminate something and I am trying to see what we should take out if needed. My husband wants to go to Positano, my teen son wants the ruins and Mt. Vesuvius part and I am just along for the ride. Actually I'd like to see it all!!
I love reading your responses to people, Very helpful

PS We are on a cruise so not much time to see this

Travel Tips for Naples

oh yeah...the traffic

by yeah_baby

Heavy traffic hampers Naples's public transportation of buses, trams, 2 subways lines and 4 railways. By the way, only use registered taxis which are white and have the city's emblem on their license plates.

The Villa Comunale

by ruki

The Villa Comunale is the most prominent and visible park in Naples and southern Italy. It was built in the 1780s by King Ferdinand IV (later known as Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies) on land reclaimed along the coast between the main body of the city and the small port of Mergellina. The park was originally a "Royal Garden", reserved for members of the royal family, but open to the public on special holidays such as the Festival of Piedigrotta

A culinary journey

by gmg61 about Ristorante Viaggio

A new restaurant in Naples, a bit away from the city centre.
The name "Viaggio" (means: journey) tells you all: the concept is to serve cuisine of all italian regions as if you are travelling through italy.

Good modern cuisine that follows the traditional recipes but adds a touch of lightness without loosing any taste.

There is also a small shop for typical and bio products and a wine shop Ravioli ripieni di melanzane e provola affumicata
Ricciola scottata al pepe nero

Less popular than the neighbouring island of Capri it is a great place to spend a few days in the sun.
If you want to vist Naples and prefer a more quiet environment try to stay in one of the small hotel in Ischia Porto. Fast ferries 'Aliscafi' take you back to the mainland in less than 30 minutes.

Posillipo Hill

by Polly74

This hill, that is part of the sides of a crater, separates the Gulf of Naples from Pozzuoli dalla Grotta Romana.
Since ancient times, this area has always been considered a residential area, where it is possible to rest from the efforts of city life. The very name of the area is a demonstration of this: the Greek term Pausilypon means "a respite from pain”. The beautiful villas with their wonderful views over the Gulf can still be admired today.
