Dining
by ruki
Neapolitan cuisine is famous worldwide, and there is no shortage in Naples of quality restaurants catering to all budgets. Dining in a Neapolitan restaurant is traditionally a festive occasion - enlivened by the numerous variety of savory pasta and pizza dishes listed on most menus. Although pizza and pasta are the culinary symbols of Neapolitan cuisine, Naples is also known for its superb cheeses (including the famous mozzarella), its tasty fish and seafood dishes, and its delicious ice cream and pastries.
Simple Advice

Pack light, especially during the summer when it's hot or you are planning on taking the bus/train to get to your location. Everything tends to be crowded in the summer and you'll just be uncomfortable with alot of things. Others are obvious but ladies shouldn't carry handbags that don't go over the shoulder. Someone will snatch it out of your hand if you're careless. Wear shorts in the summer and sun glasses. Because Naples weather fronts come from Africa, it tends to get incredibly sweltering in the summer. Also keep a bottle of water with you to keep from gettng dehydrated. It's hard some times to get help in a pharmacy as sometimes the shop keepers will not have the slightest idea what you are talking about. Keep a little travel bag with you with the needed supplies such as band aids, toilet paper, and asprin. During the day it is relatively safe to take photos just about any where. Just be careful and be observant of those around you. For the younger crowd, at night time a small digital camera is a good tool to have when you're out on the town. You'll be surprised at how many people will want to just be in your picture. Like any beach, bring a big towel, sunscreen & sunglasses. You can sun bathe topless without any problem. Just keep your lower portion in clothing.
Shut your eyes and pray

If you must use a car in Naples, it's better to drive yourself. Then, at least, you still have some control over your destiny. As a passenger, you can only trust in the Lord. Remember, when sitting beside a Neapolitan driver, that traffic lights in Naples have a different significance: Green means go, Amber means accelerate and Red means shut your eyes and make the sign of the cross.

Okay so Naples is a poor city, and always has been. However it has Pompeii and all the stuff they found in Pompeii. Nowhere else in the world has anything like Pompeii. So you'd think they'd make the most of it. Unfortunately the musem, like Pompeii itself, is massively underfunded. So don't be surprised if half the galleries are closed or only open at certain times. I did get to see the mosaics from Pompeii (absolutely stunning) and the Secret Cabinet (all the rude stuff from Pompeii). I also got to see all the paintings from Pompeii, eventually....and they too are amazing.
However, having travelled half way round the world, I didn't get to see the Farnesi marbles. Purely and simply because they haven't got the staff to open the gallery. Unbelieveable.
Incidentally, walk from the central station...then you get to see some of old Naples.
Capodimonte Church

It is a beautiful church on the outskirts of the city center up on a hill. From the church you can see quite a bit of the city. The day I went here there was a wedding taking place. It was pretty good timing. The picture is of a statue out on the portico of the church.
And yes, if the name sounds familiar it's because the fine porcelan figures also come from this area.
