Hotel names near Naples

by jonnaland

I used to live in Capodichino (military) and plan to return in March. I plan to take a cab from Rome and stay in a small town ouside of Naples for a few days. I forget the names other than peinetamare. Help on the small town names near pozullio. Later I plan to go to Ischia and I forget the name of the hotel which had 2 pools side by side (thermak and jump a wall to the clorine pool). I've spent hours online looking for it. It also had a pool side bar outside. What is the temp expected in March?
Thanks

try venere.com, you can browse by neighborhood/area for lodgings. You may be able to find your Ischia hotel there.

Where so you actually want to go while in the area? That may influence your hotel choice. In the area of Pozoulli, there is Bagnoli, Agnano, Fourigrotta, Soccavo, and Pianura (where I used to live) and many more. In that area, I would stay away from the San Germano Hotel and the American Hotel. The Hotel Nesis gets fairly good reviews and the Domitiana Hotel on Viale Kennedy didn't used to be too bad. In Pozzoulli by the Tangenziale exit is Compleso Turistico Averno. They have bungalows and hotel. In March, you probaby aren't going to need a swimming pool. They have a really good restaurant.

Why are you taking a cab from Rome? Isn't that around €300? You can take the EuroStar or equivalent for around €30 and it takes 1.5 hours. If you don't want to go to Garibaldi, some trains go to Mergellina and some to Campi Felegri.

We are going on March, but we are driving from Rome because there are a lot of places we want to go that are difficult by public transportation. A hotel out of the city center may not have great transportation links, depending on your plans.

Get a good map of the area, or use viamichelin.com to find way between things.
Buona fortuna,
CHristi

Thanks for the info. I meant to say I was renting a car in Rome and driving to Naples or take a train. But, I must rent the car in Rome becuase our arrival time will be late and the rental places in Naples might be closed. I found a hotel in Castel Volturno (Holiday Inn). Thanks for all of your info.

Travel Tips for Naples

Via Tribunali - San Paulo Maggiore

by yooperprof

There have been religious associations with this site for more than 2000 years. A pagan temple was located here when Naples was "Neapolis" - the new city of Magna Graecia. Christians of the 8th Century built a church here dedicated to St. Paul, and retained two large Corinthian columns which dominate the balcony facing the Piazza.

Much of the church was heavily damaged in earthquakes of the 17th century, and rebuilt in the course of the 18th. Much of the interior is gilded in late Baroque splendor. The church was again heavily damaged in 1943 during the Allied bombing of Naples, and has (again) been beautifully restored.

In its intricate layering of distant and recent pasts, San Paolo Maggiore is a very Neapolitan place!

Solfatara - it's the crater of an extinct volcano in the town of Pozzuoli which can be easily reached using the circumvesuviana train. You can walk inside the crater and still see sulphur bubbling up from under your feet. Weird ..

Pintauro bakery

by extrajoce about Pintauro bakery

One of the most famous bakeries, for the local specialty: the sfogliate caldo (hot sort of croissant with custard-like filling). It is on the west side of via Toledo, just north of the western entrance of the Galleria Umberto I. Definitely delicious.

Museo Archeologico Nazionale - Farnese Hercules

by Willettsworld

The Museum has a particularly rich collection of Greek and Roman sculptures, deriving both from the excavation of various sites - above all around Vesuvius and in the Phlegrean Fields - and from private sources, the most important being the Farnese collection.

This piece, Farnese Hercules, was made by Glykon of Athens and is an enlarged copy of a sculpture by the Greek master Lysippus.

il Duomo - Battistero di San Giovanni in Fonte

by MM212

One of the oldest baptistries in the western world to have survived intact, il Battistero di San Giovanni in Fonte dates from 550 AD (San Giovanni in Laterano in Rome has an older baptistry, but it was heavily remodelled). This one in Naples is accessed from the Basilica di Santa Restituta, and is thus part of the cathedral of Naples. The small square baptistry is topped by a dome covered in patches of mosaics that have survived since its construction in the 6th century AD. The baptistry and its mosaics are of great architectural value as they are of the few survivors from the early Christian period.
