Probably one of the best in this city!

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 2, 2014

We stayed for six nights in “Hotel Royal Continental” in August 2014. Location of that hotel is really great. It situated at the Partenope Street just at the first line of the seashore. Since we had the sea view through the windows of our room we had really wonderful landscape to enjoy with. We could enjoy excellent sea views and Castel Del Ovo Castle situated at the peninsular just in front of our windows for twenty for hours daily. The very important thing is that this hotel is situated in the safest region of Naples. That’s why to reach Spacanapoly or Sanita areas you will need to spend at least half an hour. Although it will take only fifteen minutes to get by walk the Royal Palace, San Carlo Theater, New or Angevin Castle situated in the area of Santa Lucia.
So, it was an excellent base to commit our cultural raids on the city of Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius. Regarding to hotel itself I can tell that our room was very big, such big rooms are more typical for the five stars hotels. Everything was very clean, the room was equipped with air-conditioner, mini-bar, TV set, phone and so on. Bath room was very big too, and was equipped with the comfortable bathtub and all other necessary things including the phone.
Free Wi-Fi was available at the room. Public areas were equipped with comfortable arm-chairs and sofas. Restaurant was very good with plenty of delicious food. Unfortunately omelet was prepared with some specific sauce and smelt with the fish. We had our breakfasts there. Bar was pretty good.
Hotel also possesses the swimming pool. There was the boutique with men’s and lady’s fashions dress in the ground floor.
All staff was very polite and useful and spoke fluent English. So, I think this is very good hotel and I can recommend it to other travelers.

Some good, some not so good

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)

I don't usually stay in Hotels, preferring apartments or B&B's, but decided to give this a try based on input from a friend. The Hotel is very highly rated on signs such as booking.com, but I would have to say my impressions were of a hotel less than 4 star. Here are my impressions:

What's great about this hotel? Location, location, location, being right along the water front on a pedestrian street. Lots of restaurants (somewhat pricey), great evening stroll. Room was very quiet and dark, great for sleeping. Great balcony.

What's good about this hotel? Within walking distance to most areas such as the old town, hydrofoils, etc. Nice pool and exercise room, abet a bit crowded on hot days. Breakfast, included with the room price, was adequate and abundant.

What's not so good about this hotel? I was disappointed with the size of the room (we were two adults and a teen), being somewhat cramped. There was mold above the toilet and peeling paint above the shower, not to mention that the walls were in need off repair and paint throughout. WiFi was spotty at best. There was a recurring problem with water ponding on the floor of the bathroom and no explanation as to why this kept happening. Even maintenance couldn't figure it out. One of the elevators was out for two days of our 5 day stay which made for long waits. Bottom line....too much money for a second rate room.

Close to the sea...

Bad (2.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 18, 2008

That hotel is perfectly located, just in front of Castel dell' Ovo along the bay of Naples. The view from the roof was really great, too bad they gave me a room looking into some kind of inner court!

They are also making a lot of fuss about the swimming pool on the roof, but don't expect to swim, it's far too small... and even if the sea is just in front of the hotel, no possibility to swim over there neither, that was really frustrating!

The room was rather spacious but I have not really been impressed. The bed was quit hard as well!
On the other hand, the bathroom was quite impressive by both its size and style. There was no bath but only a shower. That's definitely an advantage to me, I never have the time to take a bath anyway and I don't like taking my shower in a bath tub. That room was decorated with some kind of greenish mosaic, quite unusual but the result was far from being convincing!

Being in the south of Italy, I would have expected the staff to be, if not friendly, at least showing some animation. On the contrary, they were cold and looked quite bored.

Unique Quality: The breakfast was included in the room price but the buffet was rather limited. The warm option was close to nothing but at least they had a good choice of Danish pastries. Overall it was not too bad!

Finally, it is one of the few hotels in town where wireless Internet access is available via iPass.

Directions: just in front of Castel dell' Ovo!
