Will the bus from the airport make a stop close to the Renaissance Mediterraneo?

by Richard1148

I have read that the Alibus stops at the Piazza Municipio, which I believe is close to the Renaissance Mediterraneo. Is it close or is there a regular bus that would stop closer? If the Piazza Municipio is the closest, can someone give me directions from there to the hotel? Thanks.

I can't speak to the regular buses, but I can show you how to see the route from Piazza Municipio to the hotel online.

First, go to www.viamichelin.com . Then choose Driving Directions. For the starting point, enter "Piazza Municipio" as the address and "Napoli" as the city (actually, it may accept "Naples" as well). For the ending point, enter "Via Ponte di Tappia 25" as the address and "Napoli" as the city. Of course, choose "Italy" as the country.

Look down and see if you have options. If so, click on "on foot"; if not, click on the Options link and click on "on foot".

The result should be a walk that is 400 meters that should be fairly straightforward...

Travel Tips for Naples

Vesuvius has erupted about...

by Andrew_Mc

Vesuvius has erupted about three dozen times since 79 A.D., most recently from 1913-1944. The 1913-1944 eruption is thought to be the end of an eruptive cycle that began in 1631. Photo by Italian Air Force from Green and Short (1971).

Drive to Naples

by Pakistaniguy

Naples is just 3 hours drive from Rome and 1.5 hours drive from Pescosolido (where VT Motagna lives).

The route is very scenic. Even the motorway is not so boring as the motorways usually are ! Don't forget to keep some coins or little cash with you because in Italy you have to pay Motorway Charges !

Vineyards of Pompeii

by Foriano

In the Orchard of the Fugitives today, with its green grass, robust grape vines, and fruit trees, it is life, not death, that prevails, and the orchard is lovely once again. Ever more patches of green have come to life over the past decade as environmental biologists try to identify and recreate Pompeii's urban gardens. Down the street another vineyard adjoins the Osteria of the Gladiators, where four species of indigenous white grapes have been planted in soil that nurtured similar vines two thousand years ago. After a hot summer, the grapes are so full of sweet juice that the vines have to be covered with fine nets to protect the harvest from thieving birds. For harvest it they will. This vineyard is not just for show but is part of an ambitious effort to resurrect the vineyards of Pompeii and recreate the wines of the ancient Romans according to old Roman methods. The project- is a public-private partnership between the Archaeological Superintendence of Pompeii and the Campania wine estate Mastroberardino. Ancient frescos, root imprints, Roman authors, and DNA are used to identify the grape varieties.

Museo Archeologico Nationale

Even if you only have a short time in Naples try not to miss this museum.

The mosaics and other treasures from Pompeii and Herculaneum make a wonderful introduction to the sites. They are preserved here in all there glory. Some of the mosaics consist of pieces barely more that 1mm and are breathtaking.

Don't miss the extensive model of Pompeii started in 1861. It is so detailed that it is an important historical record in itself.

Also of note are the Farnese sculptures, though sadly the famous Hercules was under wraps for my visit due to restoration of the room. I also admired the deeply carved sarcophagi on the ground floor.

A real treat.

Fontana del Carosello

by Polly74

This fountain situated next to Castel dell'Ovo is something special for me and it could be the same for several people of my age or older than me.
It was the symbol of one of the most popular TV transmission in the 70ies: Carosello.
Carosello defined when children had to go to bed after dinner and it had a very nice music that I can still remember....
