Hotel Villa dei Misteri: The Official Hotel of Pompeii
Being that this hotel is literally only 200 meters from the entrance to the ruins by default, in my opinion it make it the official hotel of Pompeii. The hotel itself is neat place to stay as it is very unique in it build and location. The hotel was built in the 1930's and has a style that fits the era. During the summer season they have serve food outside by the pool and the views from the balcony of the rooms are stunning. I was treated to sweeping, panoramic views of the Amalfi coast and I could even make out Capri. To get to the hotel take the commuter train from Naples or Sorrento and get off at the Pompeii Scavi stop. Take a left on the road that runs past the train station and follow it for about 150 meters. I stayed there in March 2007 and paid $65 US dollars, which considering the location and the charm of the hotel turned out to be a real steal! Just Google the name of this hotel and it will bring up several sites you can book through.

hotel savola: hotels in pompeii
all of the inns in the ancient city of pompeii closed in 79AD due to the eruption of mt. vesuvius, but i can recommend a nice hotel in nearby sorrento. the hotel savoia is a nice place to stay within walking distance of the train station and just around the corner from the charming piazza tasso. if you are looking for luxury this is not the place, just a clean comfortable room at a reasonable price.

Calypso Hotel: Pompei's great value
The Hotel Diana was actually recommended the Hotel Calypso to us at the train station in Pompei. We walked to the Hotel Diana, but found they were full. They were extremely helpful though. They actually called the Hotel Calypso and reserved us a room and one of the owners (it's family run) offered to come and pick all four of us up, bags and all! The hotel was newly remodeled and was run by an extremely nice family who also lived there. Breakfast was included and the rooms were small but nicely furnished and clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. My mother is addicted to hot tea and she went to reception several times to get hot water to make tea in our room and they were happy to get it and didn't even charge like some hotels did! The owners even got on the internet and helped us find a room in Naples the next night. It was very reasonably priced for 4. I think we spent about 80 euros a night.

Hotel Iside
Lovely friendly 3 * hotel located approx 200m from the ruins entrance and approx 300m to the town centre. Room was nice and large - they gave me a disabled room which had a lot of space even though I'm not disabled! Breakfast was nice with bread rolls, orange juice, coffee/tea etc. Free car parking is available round the back of the hotel. I wanted to give my car a wash whilst I was there and they gave me a bucket, water and soap which was nice!

Hotel Vittoria: Near the site
The hotel here is a nice place and the rooms are clean. However, you do have to put up with all the bus groups going in and out of the lobby all day long.
With the price of the room you get a nice breakfast but get down the early so you can beat the rush of tourist.
Unique Quality: Staying here gives you the chance to spend a day or two exploring all of the ruins and the sourounding area. There is much more to see than just the ruins.

Pompeii HI hostel: The HI hostel in Pompeii
If you've seen the picture of it on the booklet with all the HI hostels of Italy don't be fooled. It's a simple building, with excellent interior. Clean rooms, internet, a washroom in every room, breakfast (which isn't all that much), a tv that no one watches, and it's close to everything ( that being the archeological sight). Oh and if Alphonso still works there, he's quite a charmer. And of course they sell ice cream.

We stayed in a tent at a campingground. As far as I remember this was near the site.
I'm afraid I have no better accomodation tip, but if you check some of the other wonderful pages here at VT, I'm sure you'll find some up-to-date tips :-)
NB: Many members have their Pompei tips under Napoli!
