Purchasing Train Ticket from Mestre to Trieste

by XtravelloverX

Hi there,

When/where should we purchase our round-trip train tickets from Mestre to Trieste?

Through...

www.raileurope.com
or
www.trenitalia.com
or
wait until we are in Mestre and purchase the day before departure? We will be staying at the Hotel Tritone in Mestre, which, I understand, is accoss the street from the train station, so this option wouldn't be difficult.

Thank you,
Dawn

i think that purchasing in mestre is the best solution, since you'll be able to consider any last minute change of plan. in addition, getting the ticket locally is a piece of cake: you have the ticket booth with the employee or the automatic ticket machines (that i prefer) that are touchscreen and multilingual.

if you use the ticket machine, remember that they don't make round trip tickets. you must get two tickets, one for each trip (it's the same as the ticket booth, only the employee takes care of it and gives you two tickets anyway).

ciao, luca.

I agree with Luca. Buying the tickets in Italy is easier and possibly cheaper than doing online in advance. Only rarely is it necessary to buy tickets way in advance...

Travel Tips for Positano

Good Times and Great Friends

by Geisha_Girl

I couldn't stress enough to folks traveling to Positano how ROMANTIC this town is! However, even if you're just traveling with a group of friends like we did.......it's still the best place to just sit back and chill. It was the most relaxing time I have ever had on holiday! Good friends, good times, and being pampered like the PRINCIPESSAS that we are!!!

The town that inspired John Steinbeck!

by wilocrek

If you are a John Steinbeck fan you are most likely aware that he spent a significant amount of time in Positano. He lived there well before Positano became a tourist destination and one can see where he got some of his inspiration. A few days in Positano and you will have the desire to write just like Steinbeck, though its doubtful anyone ever will!

Hire a Driver

by TRimer

It is best to hire a driver for a day to take you to some of the more distant towns- i.e. Ravello or Pompei.

We used a driver for day trips and to get to the Naples train station and from the Sorrento hydrofoil.

One driver is Salvatore Esposito. Via degli Aranci, 187, Sorrento

Breathtaking atmosphere with great food

by ian.and.victoira about La Terrazze

This restaurant is like marmite...you will either love it or hate it! If you are only interested in getting good food with relaxed service then this place ISNT for you... the dishes take a long while to come out... the waiters try their best to cover up the wait and are very attentive but it is obvious that they are experienced in the food coming out a very steady pace - this is clearly down to the chef wanting to ensure everthing is of a good standard and also in Italy if the company is good then the wait isn't a big deal...eating in this part of Italy is more like going round someones house for some supper... you get fed when the food is ready ... so if you are in a rush and not in great company then stay away!!
The view is breathtaking... one of the best in positano (ladies take a wrap or a pashmina as it can get a bit chilly!!) and the atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely.
The food does now have prices on the menu - there isn't reams of pages to sift through ... I always fell nervous when there is a long menu - how can all that food be cooked from scratch ...there were probably about 5 each for antipasti, primi pati and secondi patti, a good menu is quality not quantity... ...everything here is cooked fresh which is why it takes so long.

I disagree the food is just as good as elsewhere, the presentation and the way the dishes were executed was superior (only just) to most meals we had, however the atmosphere is very special, and it was the only restaurant we revisited in Positano... and they remembered us.

It isn't particularly cheap either (about €150 for 2 people) but come on you are on holiday, have a luxurious night enjoy the company of whoever you are with and just in dulge!! The fillet of beef for main course and the king prawn antipasti were delicious...

Pizza in the Piazza

by TRimer about Pizzaria Below the Steps of the Amalfi Duomo

In the Piazza Duomo in Amalfi there are several restaurants serving different varieties of pizza. We ate at the one just to the left of the steps. Cannot remember the name. I am sure that they are all good.
