Great stay: fantastic views, friendly staff

My wife and I celebrated her 60th birthday in Positano in August, and Hotel Miramare turned out to be the perfect place to celebrate. We stayed in one of the Superior rooms, with breathtaking views of the town, beach and sea. Room was very clean, and entire staff was helpful and friendly.
Rosita, the warm and very friendly manager, was incredible in helping me make my wife’s birthday memorable - she confirmed my dinner arrangements at the Il San Pietro, made taxi reservations, and arranged for flowers to be delivered to the room.
Many other niceties at hotel - room was cleaned up twice a day, good breakfast spread with great dining room views, wi-fi, providing towels and a beach bag, and carrying our bags free to beach level. We had a fantastic stay there.
    Mille grazie Rosita!

    Charming hotel over the sea

This hotel is a sweet little place with an amazing view of the sea. You have to be ready to walk, though. It's quite a few steps down to the hotel, and then up again to get to town. If you don't mind the walk, you'll be very impressed. The rooms are gorgeous, we had a shower with a floor to ceiling window over looking the Med. it was spectacular.

Charming, But Not Four Star

by TripAdvisor Member youngNYfamily

We visited the Miramare on our honeymoon in October, based in large part on the recommendations contained on this site. Admittedly, we spent the prior week in a 5-star hotel in Tuscany, so we were coming to Positano with high expectations. Positano was amazing. Definitely the right choice for a "base" on the Amalfi Coast. However, if we were to do it over again, we would not stay at the Miramare. The staff, particularly at the front desk, is very polite and very helpful. But the hotel itself is very very average. The rooms are clean and well-kept, but in need of updating and basic maintenance (the paint on the ceiling in the bathroom was chipping). Our room was musty and warm when we entered it and though we turned on the air conditioning before heading out to take in the sights, the cleaning staff turned the AC off while we were gone, causing us to return to a hot and muggy room (an occurrence that repeated itself every night we were there). The breakfast room has an amazing view, but the breakfast itself is incredibly disappointing as they do not refresh many items, so only those who arrive at the crack of dawn can truly enjoy the breakfast. Service in the breakfast room is ok, though not friendly or as willing to help as the front desk staff. If you're looking for a bargain, I guess this is the hotel. However, if you're looking for luxury or even a really memorable hotel experience, I'd look elsewhere. We would not stay at this hotel if we had it to do over again. And as someone who relies on tripadvisor reviews quite frequently, I assure you this is not written in anger or out of some personal mission, I intentionally waited months after our return before writing this, so the immediacy of the experience wouldn't taint my review.

Wonderful Staff

My family stayed for one week at the Miramare in August 2004. The albergo and its location were stunning. But most of all, it was the staff. They were the most welcoming team from the first moment we arrived until we left. All of them Nicola, Rosita, and Giuseppe ... simply wonderful.

If you want the essence and ambience of the most magical place in Italy, run to this hotel! I've stayed there many times and each better than before. The staff, Nicola and Rosita make you feel like family, and the rooms, between the comfort and breathtaking views make it difficult to leave, but just put on some comfortable shoes and walk down to the beach. It's magnificent!! I could not recommend this place more!!

Would love to return to the Miramare!

What a view! And working off all the food with all the steps is just an added bonus. It would be tough to stay here if you have difficulty with a lot of stairs, that is my only reservation. The breakfast is adequate, not great. But for the money, our room was fabulous. The staff very helpful and kind. We have recommended this hotel to many friends and they have all returned with good experiences. We would certainly stay here again.

Great Location, well kept, helpful staff

by TripAdvisor Member aswatkins

One thing that's hard to figure out about Positano hotels is where within Positano they're located. This matters because Positano is essentially spread over the sides of a couple of very steep hills. We spent 3 nights at the Hotel Miramare and while walking around most of Positano walked by several of the hotels reviewed on this site. From a location perspect the Miramare is about as good as it gets. It's approximately equidistant between the beach and the lower road (which is where you will leave your car or taxi). One of the staff members stated the the trip up the stairs to the lower road is 120 steps. Seems about right. Some other hotels are located way up high (Le Sireneuse, for example) right on the lower road, and nearly as high as the upper road, so hiking back up their frequently would not be much fun.

Our room was meticulously clean and very comfortable, and the hotel is high enough on the hill to have a magical view of the town and ocean.

The breakfast is as good as any on our 10-day trip (inlcuding in comparsion to the Danieli in Venice where a simple continental breakfast costs 43 Euro and a buffet is 50+). The breakfast staff will also prepare hot dishes to order, such as omellettes, etc., apparently at no additional charge.

There is also a free internet access point.

The staff at the Miramare hotel really are remarkable. We had an issue with theft of items from our luggage on the trip over from the US, and had only 7 days in which to file a claim with the airline (Lufthansa). Roberta was incredibly helpful in communicating with the Italian branch of the airline to determine exactly what I needed to supply as a claim, and then cheerfully helped me assemble and fax the claim. Really outstanding service, far better than I would receive later at the famous Danieli ($$$$$) hotel in Venice.

You will not go wrong staying at the Hotel Miramare. It's charming.

We have just returned from nine glorious days in Positano.
However, the Hotel Miramare's wonderful sevices, breakfast, room (210)and cleanliness put our vacation over the top. Also, the staff, especially Rosita and Nicola made us feel special, comfortable and informed. Their advice on getting around and restaurants were right on the money.
Brava Miramare!

A little slice of paradise

by TripAdvisor Member Carrie012

We stayed in room 209 for two nights, and we did not want to leave!! Rosita is very wonderful at the front desk, and the room was top notch. I wish we had stayed here for our 5 nights on the Amalfi coast instead of moving on to Sorrento where our room was more expensive and so much more lacking in quality.

I loved taking a bath with the wonderful view. Our bathroom was spectacular. Our fiends had room 207, deluxe room and their balcony was very roomy with a large square table and lounge chairs. Our balcony in 209 was smaller, but we enjoyed sitting out there many times, especially for breakfast. If you want a private breakfast, just ask them to deliver it for you. There is no charge for this (other than tipping the young man that brings it to you).

The only disappointment was the fact that we were not able to go on the boat ride, as it does not run on Sunday and was booked fully for Monday morning. Book this early so you will not be disappointed.

Also, porter services are available for getting your bags up to the road, but the porter charges 5 Euro a bag. I don't know if Rosita knows this or not, as she did not mention a charge, nor does the room documentation mention a charge for this service. I suggest packing light and carrying your own bags.

Take the ferry (for 5 Euros) to Amalfi and explore that small town as well as Ravello. We took a taxi up to Ravello, but then walked the steps down.

I wish we would have had more nights here. It is very romantic. If we ever come back to the Amalfi coast, we will definitely stay here again.

Worth Every Euro!

The Miramare is a great hotel with wonderful, pleasant, helpful staff making your stay incredibly relaxing and memorable. They clearly want you to have an enjoyable time and do their utmost to help with recommendations and reservations for all activities. The balcony rooms have breathtaking views over the sea. The breakfast room is gorgeous with flowers over the entire ceiling.

We expected to pay a fee to the porter to take our bags down to the catch the ferry. He asked for US dollars and we gave him $5 which we felt was worth it. We carried the hand luggage ourselves. We had small carry on suitcases so it was quite easy to manage all the steps but if you have larger suitcases the porter is worth it. The only warning we have is that if you are not willing to walk up and down stairs everywhere, Positano is not the place for you!

We would definitely return to this hotel.

Positano Questions

anybody stayed at the Hotel Albergo Miramare?

Also , how crowded is Positano in July?

Finally, are there any nice bars that stay open late for some late night boozing?

I don't know the hotel, but I can tell you that Positano in July is crowded, not overcrowded. The worst time to go there is august. In July you'll find plenty of bars to wait for sunrise :)
