Hotel Palazzo Murat
by Erin74 about The dining room at Hotel Palazzo Murat
The dining room at Hotel Palazzo Murat is entirely outdoors, surrounded by trees. It is gorgeous! If you're going to have an elegant, special night out while you're in Positano, this is the place to dine. It's expensive, but the atmosphere is so gorgeous, the food so delicious and the service so attentive that the experience is worth every penny. We had a five course meal that included salad, ravioli, John Dory (whitefish) fillet, gelato, cake, and limoncello. It was all really delicious!

Amalfi Coast - Accomodations
by YYZ
I will be spending a month in Italy in September and would like to spend 3 or 4 nights on the Amalfi Coast. Any suggestions for cheap accomodations?
Thanks!

Venue for positano wedding dinner
by Finnerty
I am getting married in Positano this May. Myself and my partner are currently looking for a suitable restaurant or trattoria to have a nice, informal loooooong wedding dinner to celebrate with our 20 guests. We are looking for somewhere nice, but not too upmarket which has really good food and a great atmosphere, ideally it would have a nice view over the sea and perhaps a terrace big enough to accommodate a table of this size.
We would be very grateful of any help or advice that anyone could offer.
Thanks in anticipation.

hi - the 2 most spectacular large dinner venues in Positano are also the 2 most expensive, the san pietro and sireneuse hotels. However, meals on the amalfi coast in general are not THAT expensive ---- there is a limit to how much one can charge for grilled fish and pasta. both have great views. the buca de bacco hotel is on the beach and has an upscale dining room where friends had a good meal but we did not eat there. It overlooks the beach. the hotel palazzo de murat has a very lovely outdoor dining area but we don't know anything about how good it is or what it might cost and it does not have much of a view of anything. there are several good restaurants in the hills overlooking positano - check these out on the Positano destination page. best wishes on your upcoming nuptials. If I might be so intrusive, where are you having the ceremony?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. We are getting married in the little church San Pietro and will be staying in the Hotel San P for 2 nights too. I'm afraid we can't stretch to having our wedding dinner there - although it is lovely. I've been to Palazzo Murat - and although v nice - it wasn't really what we are after. I have read about a Restaurant called Donna Rosa in Monte Pertuso, but as yet have not managed to get in touch with them - none of the tel numbers connect and they do not appear to have a website or e mail address.

beautiful choice for a wedding, spectacular for short honeymoon. BUT - read my San Pietro tip and watch every penny and bill. There are several other posts about the same issues on Trip Advisor and our travel agent warned us before we went based on the experiences of earlier customers. That said, my wife says this is the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed in. The restaurant is one of the hill places - highly regarded. Check the VT Positano page for numbers, etc. Try and get to Ravello if you have time - gorgeous. And if you need ceramic dishes, read my shopping tip. You can't believe how much cheaper it is in the factory. And again, best wishes. N. This martini is for you. >-!
Travel Tips for Positano
Watch the clouds roll in off the ocean..
by PetaJ
And envelop you! We stayed in a guesthouse above Positano, about a 40 minute drive from the centre.
The clouds are at eye-level. That is, you see their width and form, and you can watch them slowly move toward you from the ocean. Slowly your view of the ocean becomes obscured. Until you are surrounded in cloud, and you can see wisps of them move by.
It truly is where the sea meets the sky. The line becomes blurred, so much so that you can't tell the difference, and can't make out the horizon.
I would recommend the journey up the hill and spend one night looking over the ocean from high above. It's fairytale... where beanstalks grow or worlds turn around and transport you to a different place.
Drive or take a bus?
by paulapes
Cost for a week's rental of an auto was very good. I rented through AutoEurope and had no problems. I highly recommend travelling this way outside of the big cities, unless you're normally a very cautious driver....if that's the case, take the bus!
This is a photo of one of those tour buses maneuvering around a bend on the coast road. On the left is a trench-digging machine that actually had to stop what it was doing, back up and move as close to the outside wall as it could, so that the bus could get around the corner! This was quite a production and stopped traffic for quite a while.
In the photo also you can see someone on a scooter, trying to sneak through the mess to continue on up the road. This kind of thing goes on all of the time here and you have to watch out for the scooter drivers as a rule.
Along the God's Path-The only restaurant
by gmg61 about Santa Croce
This is a normal restaurant, but it's highilight is that it's the only place where you can get food and water if you trek along the "Sentiero degli Dei". It's at the beginning or the end of the trail, dependinh on where you start on, Positano or Agerola.
It has a terrace where you can eat and enjoy a wonderful view on Positano, the coast and the islands of Li Galli and Capri Basic food, cuisine based mostly on meat.

Positano's Position
by sandysmith
Positano can rightfully be called one of the most picturesque towns on the Campania coast. It seems to be enclosed by the beautiful beach of Marina Grande and crowned by the green slopes of Mounts Comune and Sant’Angelo a Tre Pizzi. A stay on the Amalfi coast muct include a visit here.
Indeed since John Steinbeck's famous report on Positano in 1953 it has become a renowned international tourist resort.
