The Beaches
by sandysmith
The main beach of Positano is of volcanic sand and small stones, located at the foot of the town. Rocky mountains separate the main beach from smaller seashores: Fornillo beach, situated just to the left and La Porta and Arienzo beaches just to the right of the main beach.
Degli Dei Views I
by sandysmith
The Sentiero Degli Dei path to Positano is a pull up at the start but then it levels out, winding around the cliffs high above with little villages way below. At first only the cliffs are visible but then the coast appears way below. Try to start this walk as early as possible - it gets really hot by midway and although its not too strenuous a hike the heat and humidity can make it seem so!
Walking down to Positano
by sandysmith
Just past Montepertuso there is a sign which pointed down to Positano centre......it would take about 30 mins to go down the oh so many steps but its pretty passing through the olive groves and vineyards and at first the steps were long but not so steep....
Praiano: MANGIAMO con Mama Cleliya!!
by Geisha_Girl about Petit Restaurant Bar Mare
Trust me.......you can never have a bad meal in any town you visit along the Amalfi Coast. The towns are known for their fresh catch of the day and the pasta dishes are made from the freshest home grown ingredients. However, one very memorable gastronomical experience we encountered there was in the Via Praia area in the town of Praiano. Here the owner and chef, Mama Cleliya, prepared the most delectable dishes!
Our first dinner there, we never used a menu and during our SIX COURSE meal we were being surprised with one mouth-watering dish after another.
"Ohhhh my GAAADDDD" was our reaction each time Mama Cleliya placed down the next dish!
You can get there from Positano via bus or boat. We preferred to cruise in with our boat and have the "valet guys" park it for us! The grilled "gamberi" (prawns) are battered just lightly enough to melt in your mouth....and the "Pasta Fazoul".....molto bene!!!!
Good Seafood
by TRimer about Ristorante La Cambusa
This is a very popular restuarant. We met lots of other Americans here- which can or cannot be a good thing. The tables are very close together which make interacting with other customers a definate option. Also, the restaurant was centrally located with nice views of the beach.
La Cambusa has been owned by Luigi and Baldo for over 40 years. Luigi can often be found in the restaurant chatting with customers. Ask for my favorite waiter- Raphael, if he has not permanently moved to Australia.
This is the place to order seafood. The house specialty is linguine with mussels.
Open every day except Wednesdays and for 3 weeks in January.
