The splendid Piazza Vescovado with tall, whispering Pines is the main square in Ravello. A relaxing place to sit and have a drink and view the imposing Cathedral of S. Pantaleone with its beautiful bell-tower which dominates the piazza. See must see section for more info of the cathedral.
The gardens of the Villa Cimbrone built in the twentieth century and commissioned by the English nobleman William Bechettare are dotted with statues, grottoes and temples. In the cloister, just on the left of the entrance, there is a bas-relief reproducing the seven deadly sins. The glorious view from its terrace has been coined the "Terrace of Infinity".
Villa Cimbrone: reachable from the town centre in 15 minutes' walk; the rooms have been built at the beginning of the century in neogothic style. visit time: from 9 am to sunset.
One of the highlights of our visit to Ravello was seeing this bronze door, which has been dated to 1179. The door is made up of 52 rectangular panels depicting scenes of the major mysteries of Christ's life, death and resurrection in addition to arches, lions, griffins, symbolic figures used in religious iconography to narrate biblical tales. This door is extremely rare in that there are only about 20 of these bronze doors in all of Italy.
Still unbeknown to me when I headed on up to Ravello that those gorgeous shots of the Amalfi Coast with beautiful blue water from high above at Ravello are usually from Villa Rufolo (overlooking a church or monastery that is there just below their beautiful gardens) and Villa Cimbrone.
I headed in to see the place and what a lovely surprise and with great excitement to find such beautiful views and gardens!

So it is a pleasure to have got there myself, and easily too (as it really is an easy area to travel about independently with frequent and cheap transport, and loads of accommodation of varying prices and standards) and not only lovely views but stunning gardens there that the views are from.
The cathedral was always in competition with Amalfi - the most eloquent example being the Bronze Doors, commissioned by Sergio muscettottola, to be similar to those of Amalfi but even more grand: bright with the bronze that Barisano of Trani realized in 54 squares with figures in bas-relief that portray the Passion of Christ - so take a look at those.
