Blue skies and beaches...
by lichinga
Well, beaches are not recommended to be searched too close to Salerno, but... blue skies! Oh, they deserve your visit there! Wonderful winter mornings (12 hours earlier than this picture the snow was falling in Salerno, after nobody-remembers-how-many years), enlightening the spirit, not just the façade of those beatiful palaces along the main avenue.

Salerno is a great place. Salerno Castle is a must place visit for a birds eye view of Salerno Port and the city. Naples is busy and expensive to use as a base to visit places around Naples.
Salerno is an ideal place to operate as a base to visit Cava dei Tirreni, Vietri (where you can find lots of pottery item with very colourful plates, cups and lots more), Amalfi, Positano Pompi, Pestum all at train or bus ride distance.
Personally though I think the best way to see the coast is by boat (vaporetto o traghetto). You can leave from Salerno and go all the way to Positano passing by Cetara (a very nice fishermen village)Maiori, Amalfi with it's wonderful dome.
Shopping is great in Salerno high street is nice. Lots of shops, you can also find most of the lables on Salerno shopping street.
There are orange buses to take you around the local routes.
And the blue SITA bus will take you to all major towns in the Campangna.
Visit to Amalfi is only 45 mins by SITA the blue bus you must get a ticket before hand from and tabcci shop There is a one inside the station and few on the shopping street.
You can make the return trip to Salerno by boat which is a 45 mins too.
I will strongly recommend this beautiful trip along the cost of Amalfi. Views are stunning. Two photo, top one is Town of Amalfi over looking the sea.
Bottom photo is a fruit and Veg shop, bunches of red chilies hangging outside of the shop.
Hope this information was useful to you.
Take a good care of your self and enjoy your trip.
