sorrento to naples

I don't know of one, but you can just step on a local train in Sorrento and go straight to Naples very easily.

I didn't notice any such tours advertised when I was there. It's too easy to get there by train, perhaps? And most visitors will want to see Pompeii/Herculaneum/Vesuvius/Amalfi/Capri etc. All of these are extremely easy to acces by public transport from Sorrento, by the way.

Get the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento station to Napoli Centrale, trains are frequent, faes are cheap, journey takes around an hour. You can then explore the city at your leisure.

Once you are in Naples there is a hop-on hop-off double decker sightseeing bus that can take you throughout the city, wherever you need to go. It's touristy but works well as long as the traffic co-operates ! Here's the link: http://www.napoli.city-sightseeing.it/eng/index.htm

How to get from Sorrento, or Vico Equense to one day trip to Naples ?

Re: sorrento to naples

by genebeans

Easiest way is bus from Sorrento which is real easy and even easier but a bit more in money is a boat direct from Sorrento port to Naples port--Gene

Getting the Circumvesuviana train is much much easier than getting the bus.

There are stations at Sorrento (end of the line anyway)and at Vico Equense. Trains are frequent and cheap (and not prone to traffic delays like buses). Journey time from Sorrento to Naples is about an hour: yuo'll arive at Napoli Centrale station, on Piazza Garibaldi.

You won't find train details on the Trenitalia site, as the Circumvesuviana is privately-owned. Timetables here:

Travel Tips for Sorrento

Pack light and do a load or two of laundry

by guell

Packing light is our key to travel happiness. One medium sized backpack per person always does the trick. I'd rather make a few visits to the local Laundromat than carry a lot of luggage. Finding the nearest Laundromat can be an adventure in itself that will often force us to go "off the beaten track."

Up the street and down a small alley from our hotel on Corso Italia, we found a self-serve Laundromat where we did all of our laundry. I don't remember the exact location, but it’s very close to the piazza. Our host at Hotel del Corso showed us the way. It's a good thing we got there early in the morning because the few washing machines filled up very quickly. I took the picture of the lady on the balcony while waiting for my clothes to dry.

Avoid like the plague

by turnercrw about La Scogliera

Conveniently located but that's it. We hit this place on a quiet evening and beers were being charged at €13 each - quote "It is expensive because it's expensive".

The bar staff were amusing themselves in the absence of customers by insulting those few people who were actually in the bar behind their backs, either with sign language or assuming that they couldn't understand Italian.

Dreadful, dreadul place.

Corso Italia

by kentishgirl

Corso Italia is the main street running through Sorrento town.

Here you will find shops, including supermarkets, lots of travel agencies, Banks and foreign exchange bureau.

Its a nice street to stroll along at anytime of the day or night, but be careful crossing the street as the traffic is crazy!

Sedile Dominova

by myriam_c

The Sedile Dominova is the Romanesque Cathedral of Sorrento. It's a very elegant building of the 15th century with beautiful baroque trompe l'oeil on the walls of the open loggia. Way back in time the nobles of the city would meet here to discuss city affairs. Today it's a meeting place for the inhabitants of Sorrento.

A wonderful stop along Amalfi...

by ocean_fire

"A city on rocks ..."

... but at a lower altitude than the Amalfi Coast town.
After a road trip on the Amalfi Coast where we couldn't find a single legal/ illegal parking spot neither in Amalfi or in Positano...we decided to stop in Sorrento and take the ferry next morning to Capri.
The city is filled with Americans and English , fact that was new to us coming from Southern Italy where we found mostly Italian tourists.
Hence Sorrento is very pricy...Plan ahead a hotel booking... The hotel was the most expensive we paid in Italy...( we were always looking for the cheapest accomodations...)

A stroll along the coastal Sorrento in the afternoon is wonderful...stroll along the narrow streets in the old town too!
