the best hotel staff

Stayed at this hotel for 11 nights with my girlfriend in Oct 05. The hotel is about 2 miles from Sorrento but the hotel provides a free bus. Being outside of town means it is very quiet at night, great for a good nights sleep. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are quite big, the one down side is the walls are very thin but hey it's not Ibiza so nobody plays loud music here, so not a major probem. The beds are turned down and a chocolate is left for you while you are at dinner, a very nice touch. The food at the hotel was of a very high standard and there was an excellent choice. The hotel staff are the most friendliest we have come across, especially the waiter staff who make dining here a real treat. If anyone reads this and decides to stay here look out for 2 waiters called Nello and Enzo and say Hi from us. People we met at the hotel had been coming back every year for the past 15 years and after our stay we really could see why. A very special place.

Unique Quality: Quiet location.
Excellent pool and sunbathing facilties.
Extremely friendly staff.
Great food and wine.

Loved The La Salara

by TripAdvisor Member monto

We viseted the La Solara from the 12th to 19th of May 2006. This hotel is excellent the rooms are excellent complimentory bottle of wine on arrival .The food and staff excellent there is a full sized swimming pool with beautiful views over a bay.The courtesy bus runs regular into Sorrento and always on time .Opposite the hotel there is a path down to a small quiet beach with a few bars and there are some exellent walks in the area.If visiting the local places of interest do it your self on the local bus, train or boat

Glad we were there only one night

by TripAdvisor Member irishgirl12

We had booked several nights at the Hotel La Solara but wound up staying on Capri and therefore only had one night booked. We were very glad for this after arriving there. We had our 3 adult children with us and had already been in Italy for 10 days at that point. Best Western had screwed up our reservation and when we got to the hotel, they were expecting enough people for 5 rooms, not 5 people. So the staff was angry right off the bat. I had checked the reservation before we even arrived, while I was in Italy, so it was clearly not my fault. They gave us a small, cramped room and the children had a larger room which reeked of cigarettes. Although the hotel lobby and pool were beautiful, we had no idea it was so far out of town. When we arrived - after a 30E cab ride from the train station - the last bus for the day had just returned from town. So we waited for a city bus to go explore. We were able to take thehotel bus back up the hill later on, but 2 of the children stayed in town. When they went to try to find the bus stop for the hotel bus, which is not marked at all, they were told by locals that there was no such bus! They took a bus from town back up the hill but it stopped about a mile shy of the hotel. Since the hotel is on a windy, narrow road, they climbed the hill but had to jump out of the way of fast moving cars and trucks. Very dangerous.
If you want a week to just relax, and don't mind relying on a bus to get around, this hotel would be OK. We like to roam the cities and the kids like to go out on their own. I would never stay here again. If visiting Sorrento, I would stay in town just for the local flavor. The rooms were not cheap and the hotel felt like a "tour bus" type hotel. We did not find the staff particularly friendly. My husband and I travel constantly for business, so we are pretty good judges of hotels and staff. Also, although Sorrento is a nice town, we much preferred Positano. We did not feel like there was enough to see there. I guess it is a good place for day trips to the Amalfi Coast or to Capri.

Having stayed in hudreds of hotels all over the world from basic to luxury and i have no hesitation in saying that the La solara has the best service of any i've been to.
From the front desk to the chamber maids everyone made everyone couldn't have made us feel more welcome and more at home.
The hotel facilities are also excellent with a large pool and excellent food. The hotel has an excellent free shuttle bus to Sorrento which leaves on a very regular basis during the day and indeed up until 10.45 p.m..
This is truly an excellent hotel and i would highly recommend it.

The best hotel around

by TripAdvisor Member TheSphinx

We spent a week in La Solara in April 2006. It is a wonderful Hotel. The staff cannot do enough to help. The food in the evening was of a very high standard. We had a room with seaview and balcony which was heavenly after a day's excursion. The Hotel is a few miles from Sorrento itself. The Hotel provides a free bus services several times a day into Sorrento and we found this to be very practical. There was live italian music almost every evening in the bar. The outdoor swimming pool is big and well maintained. There is easy access to the beach from the hotel. Don't be put off by the lunchtime menu, it is nowhere near as good as the evening meal. We have stayed in a lot of hotels, and this was by far one the best we have ever stayed in. The hotel has a very friendly and relaxed atmoshpere. The Hotel sometimes organises themed evenings, often with a pianist.

Hospitality at its best

by TripAdvisor Member Calif0rniadreamers

We found the personnel at La Solara to be hospitable and friendly in every area of the hotel--front desk, restaurant, pool, and housekeeping. When my husband thought that he had lost his camera on the public bus, the front desk personnel phoned the bus driver immediately (As it turned out, the camera was found.). The restaurant staff took pride in their food and offered very friendly service. And when we were leaving in our car, a staff person took our luggage out and tried various ways to make sure that it all fit in our trunk so that we could leave the back seat clear. Every place was kept very clean.

The room was clean and traditionally furnished, and our balcony had a filtered view of the coast and deep azure blue water.

Yes, it is a distance from the town of Sorrento, but we used the efficient shuttle (to avoid having to drive ourselves through the chaos of Sorrento) which was always on time. When we wanted to stay in town longer, we took the public bus for l Euro/person back to the hotel. We admit that to find the public bus, it took a little speaking knowledge of Italy, but the bus driver was extremely cordial in making sure that we got off right across the street from La Solara.

Our only minor complaint is that we wished that the restaurant staff were more willing to seat people in the restaurant at the view tables. Sometimes, even though those tables were empty, they were "reserved" for other people.

"can't be faulted!"

Stayed at this Hotel last summer and would go back anytime! Stunning surroundings, spaceous rooms and fantastic, friendly staff! Location was 3kms out of the town centre, however, a regular and complimentary bus service eased any transport worries - providing door to door service. Personally, I found the location beneficial as it provided the best of both worlds - a peaceful and relaxing haven yet only 2 minutes from a bustling, tourist packed town centre! A Hotel to suit all ages that had a range of guests from families to couples young and old. I myself am a keen traveller and have stayed in many high standard hotels and found this to be one of the best. It simply can't be beaten for setting and warmth of atmosphere. Highley recommended, a real gem!

Lovely atmosphere, great service

by TripAdvisor Member iNTERESTED TRAVELLER28

Four of us stayed here for seven nights, we enjoyed our stay very much, Staff couldn't be nicer. It would have been perfect if we could had gone for a walk in the evenings after dinner. Unfortunately the hotel is situated on a busy road and we thought it was too dangerous to walk anywhere.

Lovely View

by TripAdvisor Member monkeybot

Just got back from a short stay at the hotel and have to say I thought it was really nice. We were given a beautiful spacious sea view room on arrival with terrace that surely is one of the best in Sorrento. The restaurant was excellent and the staff in all areas of the hotel were good. The shuttle service to Sorrento was perfect and the last bus back at 22.45 gave us adequate time to have an evening meal and drink in the town. My only criticisms are very minor - there is nothing 'around' the hotel in terms of bars or shops (although it is only 10 mins in to town on the bus) and it is difficult to go for a walk due to there not being paths on the roads in to town. the beach nearby is down a very steep road and isn't the greatest when you get there - but you don't really come to Sorrento to lie on the beach!

Here's one thing I can tell you: that's not close to the city center! I stayed at Via Capo 31 and it was a ten-minute walk up a gently sloping hill to get to my hotel. Assuming the numbers progress at the same rate, you'd be looking at a forty-minute walk into town. There is bus service or you can rent a car, but if you're planning to explore Sorrento by foot that's not the hotel for you!

Thanks for that. Yes, we will have a car as we arrive in Naples and have to drive to Sorrento. So no problems there.

Anybody else stayed at this hotel please?

Thanks
Jane
