circumvesuviana
by doug48
by train, the only way to get to sorrento is via the circumvesuviana. the twenty mile trip from naples takes an hour ! the reason for the length of the trip is that the circumvesuviana is a commuter train and it makes 35 stops. it is crowded, and in the summer very hot, but it is an inexpensive way to get to pompeii and sorrento. from sorrento to pompeii is not so bad. it takes about 30 minutes and is not so crowded. when i arrived at the sorrento train station it was an easy walk down the hill to my hotel at the piazza tasso. but with luggage, i decided to take a taxi back up the hill back to the train station. the two block taxi ride was 10 euros. if you are physically fit, the hike up the hill will save you 10 euro.
italy's best gelato
by ablphillips about primavera
if you're looking for the best gelato in italy the place to get it is on corso italia in a small gelataria called "primavera". it has a huge variety of flavours as well as hundreds of photo's of celebrities covering the walls! it lies between corso italia and via san caesaro, can be a little hard to spot as it is a very small shop but well worth searching for!! try the amarena or limone or tiramisu but they are all fantastic! and one is never enough!!!
Oranges
by Kaynisa
Alrighty in the city what captured my attention is the orange trees planted and growing healthy by the pavement.... i tell ya not a sight you would see in malaysia... but the folks there told me that the oranges is sour and not like the usual orange that we buy to eat... not many people like this type or oranges.. they are mainly for display only... but hey what an idea... imagine malaysia planting the spiky durian trees along the highway or even the walk way in teh city... it wil definitely be a sight to watch out for.
Marinas
by Jetgirly
Sorrento has two marinas: Marina Grande and Marina Piccola (Big Marina and Small Marina). They are located below the city center and can be accessed by foot, car or public bus. At Marina level you will find public beaches, boat rentals and transportation connections to other destinations along the Amalfi Coast (including Capri, Positano and Amalfi). Tickets are sold directly at Marina level, and there are restaurants and snackbars to fill you up before your boat trip.
