Great breakfasts
by A TripAdvisor Member
Looking for a first class hotel in Sorrento then look no further.Stayed here in August and found the hotel was excellent in every way.Friendly and courteous staff, lovely gardens and views and excellent food and entertainment in the evenings. The weekly outside buffet in the beautiful garden overlooking the sea was a treat.I have stayed in many hotels but the breakfast at the Ambasciatori was excellent with a very wide choice and with the chef cooking omelettes and pancakes to order so that a cooked breakfast was really freshly made.
Loved it!

We arrived here without booking as we'd booked with their sister hotel Grand De La Ville - disaster - see review. The staff at Ambasciatori were fantastic in sorting us out a lovely room overlooking the sea and partly the pool, a reduced rate and resolved our confiscated passports and luggage problem from their sister hotel.
We only ate here one night as we wanted to sample as much as we good and the food was one of the best meals we had. The service was fantastic and we had a nice view of Vesuvius from the terrace. The breakfasts were equally as good and the coffee to die for.
The room, I think we had a superior, was massive with two double beds which they pushed together for us. Had a nice balcony and large bathroom. All very clean and airconditioned.
It was nice to have the option of the lift down to a decking and lounge area over the sea rather then just have the pool and the lifeguard here was a particularly charming italian chap!
Most outstanding for us were all of the staff, they were always so polite and charming and nothing was too much trouble.
We would definitely stay here again.
You can't beat the views

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Ambasciatori on our trip through Italy. It was the nicest hotel we stayed but also the most expensive. We splurged for a deluxe sea view suite - room 401. Our room was very large and the best feature was the large terrace (about 15ftx15ft) that hung over the bay. The inside of the room was nice and clean, but we weren't that impressed with the bathroom that was small compared to the rest of the room. The hotel had a nice, but cozy, pool area and gardens that also had lounge chairs. The hotel had activities every night; happy hour, live music, etc and we went to the happy hour one time which was in the pool area and was nice. Breakfast at the hotel was very extensive and included many fruits and breads as well as a station where they would make eggs to order or crepes. We weren't that impressed with the 'beach' which was just a wooden pier and they charged you for use of the chairs even though it was only available to hotel guests. We decided we would rather stay on our private terrace anyways and the hotel did provide lounge chairs for us as well as a small table and chair set for two. The hotel was a little bit away from the downtown of Sorrento, but it was an easy 10-15 minute walk that we made several times during our stay. Overall we had a very nice time at the Ambasaciatori and wished we could have stayed longer.
What a great Hotel

We have just returned from this hotel(july 15th 05).
What a great hotel this is , we could not fault it at all.It is spotlesley clean the staff are very friendly and cant do enough for you.
The meals are something else, very delicious and something different every night all al a carte we stayed on a half board basis for two weeks and i thought that we would get the same meal choice on the second week as we had on the first, but no we had a different choice again!
We had a choice of eating in the magnificant dinnig room or outside on the terrace both equally good with a view of the bay of naples. It is situated in a very good position just 10mins walk into sorrento where all the night life is.
This is a very relaxing hotel the swimming pool is not too big with a hydropool at one end, allthough it can get a bit growded at times around the sun terrace, but there is plenty of sunbathing areas around the beautiful gardens and you can take the internal lift down to the sea bathing platform where you can also get a snack and drinks. This hotel is definatly worth a visit, we would definatly go there again
Relaxing garden with views

Excellent overall with wonderful location. Our room had a side sea-view and had everything we needed including efficient air conditioning. The extensive gardens are well cared for and offer either shade or sun. We found the staff to be, without exception, both friendly and helpful. The restaurant offers the opportunity of indoor or outdoor dining with views over the bay to see the sunset.Thebreakfast choice , hot or cold, and quality is excellent while the dinners weregood without being truly outstanding. The bathing platform offers excellent sea swimming, although the depth (180cm) might deter inexperienced swimmers. The swimming pool is quite small but was never crowded while we were there.
This hotel is excellent for couples , but would not be ideal for those with younger children.
Excellent Hotel, Friendly Staff
by TripAdvisor Member Dave03
This was our first time in Sorrento.
The hotel was excellent. We had a pleasant room which was very clean with large balcony overlooking the gardens, swimming pool and the sea. There was a small charge for the room safe.
All meals were taken outside on the covered veranda (which we understand was built in the last year) overlooking the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius (fantastic!) The breakfast and evening meals were excellent with a good variety on the menu.
The swimming pool, (which has a hydromassage pool at one end) was never busy while we were there. Food at the poolside bar was very good.
The staff were all very friendly and willing to help. The staff on the front desk were very well informed and spoke good English. They gave advice on local tourist spots and provided timetables for the buses, trains and ferries.
The hotel is 10 minutes walk from the centre of Sorrento and the railway station. (Public transport is very cheap and we would recommend making your own way to Pompeii as the train stops outside the ruins. (Children have discounted entry but only with passports)
The waiters made a fuss of our young daughter asking her to sign for drinks etc!). She enjoyed swimming in the hotel pool, but signs warn that balls and toys are not allowed. However, there wasn't much else to keep children occupied in the hotel. A table tennis table is located in the gardens, but it was too hot to play while we were there. A children's park is nearby and the tennis courts (floodlit) across the road cost 10 Euros including hire of raquets and balls.
Evening entertainment included live music and dancing (held outside adjacent to the pool) on a couple of evenings and the Grand Buffet in the gardens, again overlooking the Bay of Naples.
Overall an excellent hotel which we would certainly visit again. Highly recommended.
Our third stay at this wonderful hotel

Stunning views, excellent service, beautiful gardens, lift down to bathing jetty for sunbathing, drinks and snacks..... we keep coming back for more!
A very relaxed atmosphere. Close enough to the centre to be convenient, but far enough away to be "away from it all" (10 mins walk)
Not much for children to do, hence not many around (bliss). However, those that stayed were fussed over by the staff and made very welcome (in true Italian style).
Excellent food with a different menu every night offering at least 3 choices for each of the three courses. Spectacular Grand Buffet (one day a week)on the Belvedere Terrace watching the sun go down over Capri.
The rooms can be a bit small, but all have a balcony (who spends time in the room anyway?)
We chose not to upgrade and ended up overlooking the road. The hotel was full, so it was our own fault! Last time we got a complimentary upgrade to have a garden / sea view.
A lot of the guests were on their third or fourth visit. I think that says it all.....
Magical Experience
by A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here at the end of June 2005 for our our 1 year wedding anniversary. Luckily, due to an overbooking at the Hotel De La Ville, we were transferred here and compensated with a magical sea facing room. We loved it. Even though the room was quite small and the bathroom was not great, the hotel facilities including the look out points, the 'beach' (nb expensive 15EU deck chairs!!), the friendly staff, breakfast overlooking the bay of Naples etc etc. Would love to come back again ASAP. Miss this place every day.
Heaven on Earth!

Absolutely fantastic hotel with superb views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. Really friendly staff who provide excellent service and good food. Ten minute walk from the centre of town. Have been holidaying here regularly over last 10 years and hope to for many more! Sitting in the beautiful gardens and enjoying the magnificent views is really my perception of heaven on earth!
