The lovely Grand Hotel Aminta

We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to others. The service was fantastic, The hotel staff polite and friendly. The rooms were spotless and comfortable, although ours was smaller than the website shows, and lso there were no tea making facilities in the rooms.
The food was good... a la carte. We had hoped there would be a buffet on the gala evenings as is usual in hotels but were a bit disappointed to see it was al a carte again as we were looking forward tp the extra choice.

There is a webcam on the hotel wesite. We arranged to be there at a specific time so that our daughter at home could see us..a bit of fun!

Unique Quality: It is in a lovely position slightly out of town up on the hill...fab views definately a wow factor!
There was a courtesy bus that travelled down and back from town, last one at 11.15 I think?. However it was lovely to walk down to the town anyway through the windy paths by the quaint houses just for the experience.

Room with a view

We loved this hotel, which we had accidentally found on the internet at a time when few businesses had begun to use this form of advertising. We found the owner informative and gracious...very responsive to our inquiries. When we arrived at the top of this hill we were in awe of the location. We travelled in a quiet season, so there weren't many guests and our rates were quite affordable. The suite was marvelous with a huge bathroom and separate sitting room that had french glass doors opening to the view you see on my front page. Wow! You could see the entire bay and out to the Isle of Capri. When there were fireworks at night, we had a perfect view! The hotel is surrounded by citrus groves, olive trees, and lots of yucca and jade plants. Altho we were unimpressed with the dinner we had there, you have tremendous choices in town.

One of the Best in the World (for me!)

My first experience with the Aminta was after fleeing a very hot, crowded and overwhelming Rome. We took the train to Naples and timidly navigated the train station there to the Circumvisuviana train.

From the Sorrento Train station the taxi wound it's way through the lovely town and up into the hills, depositing us in the very beautiful Aminta lobby with the most spectacular views ever.

The Aminta's wonderful staff is only one of the things that made me fall in love with this hotel. By the time we wrapped up our five day stay here, they felt like friends. Our room had a balcony with a view of the Bay of Naples that I could gaze at forever. It is hard to take in all the elements of that view; the bouganvillas, the orange groves, the cliffs, Sorrento tumbling down the hillside, and then the glorious blue blue sea. And in the distance; Mt. Visuvius.

Unique Quality: My favorite place was one of the outdoor cafe tables that line the deck overlooking Sorrento. Here Tonino, the best bar man in Italy, would bring me wine or whatever else my heart desired. I loved eating a lunch of caprese and pizza in this spot. Amazing how a modest lunch with a fabulous view can rival the far more expensive dining experiences in famous restaurants.

More about Grand Hotel Aminta

The best bartender in Sorrento

by Callavetta about Hotel Aminta Bar

Tonino, the Bar Manager at the Aminta has to be the best barman in Sorrento. We had several fun evenings here. One night a local singer and guitarist entertained us into the wee hours as we sang along drinking lemoncello.

The bar is a great place to meet fellow travelers. For some reason Sorrento is very popular with Brits, while nearby Positano is more where the Americans stay. I enjoyed meeting many British people here. Resort casual. But no swimsuits please.

Grand Hotel Aminta is a fantastic hotel. All the staff are friendly, helpful and polite. The food is excellent and nicely presented, and it is set in a quiet location overlooking Sorrento and the bay of Naples. I would recommend anyone to visit this amazing hotel.

New to Foreign Travel

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed there earlier this year and I can't say enough about the staff and and accomodations. They we're absolutley charming and very welcoming. Being our first foreign trip we were expectedly nervous. I need to tell you we we pleasantly surprised and our fears of foreign travel were quickly laid to rest....o much so we're going in 2005.

Thank you all of you wonderful people at Hotel Aminta

World Class Hotel - This is the ONLY hotel to stay at in Sorrento

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just checked out of the Aminta and were very sad to leave. We are two "ordinary" teachers from the UK and everythnig we write here is the truth (and we have not been paid to write this!!!). The hotel Aminta is arguably the best hotel we have EVER stayed at and we have travelled to quite a few destinations! The staff at the Aminta are the best that you will find anywhere from Aida at reception to Pietro in the restaurant to the chambermaid that cleaned our room brilliantly every day, all overseen by the excellent manager John Franco.

The room we had, 404, looked out over the coast and was spacious, clean and in a good state of repair. It had the most amazing views and the air conditioning was spot on.

The breakfast service was top class and whoever wrote on their review the coffee was cold must have been in a different hotel. Their was a good choice of food for breakfast and it was constantly topped up even until the last minute breakfast was served!

The pool was cleaned daily and although we never got to know the name of the attendent he was efficent and provided an excellent service. A charge of 4 Euros a day was made for the sunbeds but this secured your sunbed for the day and no rushing down to put your towel on the bed in the morning! The sunbeds were made up with clean linen every day, better than I can make my own bed!

The lunch menu was superb and the food and service again first class.

The highlight of the day was the evening meal. Every night the menu varied and the choice was superb - including options for the veggies amongst us. The waiter service was of the highest quality and could NOT be faulted at all. All the waiters were courteous and efficent. The food was superb and represented excellent value for money.

The only word of caution is regarding the walk in to Sorrento, it is quite steep but the hotel do offer an excellent courtesy bus which runs very regularly and on time. We walked in to Sorrento quite a few times and it did not bother us.

What more can we say. I have never written a comment on any of the hotels I have stayed at but I truly felt that this hotel deserved ten minutes of my time to explain how wonderful the whole experience was. I have never recommended a hotel to anyone for fear they would not find it as good as we did but no-one can fail to find this hotel anyhting but excellent.

John Franco and his excellent friendly staff made our time in Italy very special and I can assure you that he will be seeing us again.

BOOK this hotel and I can assure you, you will not be disappointed!

The views are great and Vincent is the Best!

by TripAdvisor Member NikiC

This is the Hotel to stay in Sorrento...yes it is a distance from the center of town and the shuttle is not as convient as it should be...but the views, service, room #305 a suite was fabulous! Thank you Vincent for your suggestions...on our last night he reccommended the best restaurant with an even better view (never thought possible) than our room had. Yes it is tacky that you must pay for a lounge by the pool but it does discourage those who put their towels there all day even if there not there...so if you want that luxury you have to pay for it. Also the pool area is too small for the amount of people who use it but it is much better than the other sardine areas in Sorrento. The breakfast was so typical European...salami,chees and ham on the seeded crunchy roll was the best. Coffee was plentyful and though not the hottest, good! Food was o.k. but who eats dinner in their hotel...when there are sooooo many great restaurants.

The Wonderful Aminta

by A TripAdvisor Member

My wife and I where sad to see a negative review of the Aminta Hotel from NJ USA. It was unfortunate that the couple only stayed one night and did not stay to get the bigger picture of what the staff at the Aminta can offer. We have just returned from our fifth year at the Aminta (7th July-17th July 2004) and are stilling waiting to be dissapointed by the hotel/staff/Amalfi coast Area. Many would say we should try elsewhere, well we have in the past, many places, none match the personel service and friendlyness that we have received from the the staff at all levels. We have this year noticed a improvement in the food, excellent, also much refurbishment has occurred during the winter months We have over the five years met many others who return year after year and see them again, not by prior arrangement. Another compliment we wish to add is the staff are the same each year, only one change over the 5 years, that must mean something. We will be returning next year knowing we will be looked after by genuine, hard working staff and management.
