Great location and Lovely hotel

Located only about 100 yards from the Piazza Tasso (the main square in Sorrento) this hotel is very centrally located, yet still maintains an air of quiet and relaxation once inside.
The rooms were clean with plenty of storage space, the staff are very accomodating and friendly and there is a lovely little pool set in a lemon grove.
Breakfast is included and there is plenty to set you up for a days exploring - cereals, fruit, cold meats, breads, juices and bacon and eggs plus the friendly waitresses with supply you with your hot drinks. Breakfast can be taken in the spacious indoor dining area or outside in the sunshine (which was particularly nice).
If you fancy spending some time by the pool, there is plenty of sunbeds to choose from, with clean towels provided and a snack bar serving food and drinks (though you have to pay for these).
All in all a lovely hotel that I would recommend to anyone.

Unique Quality: Great location, friendly staff and a lovely breakfast.

Hard to leave!

This elegant hotel, just off Piazza Tasso, was part of a Rome/Capri/Sorrento package we'd booked and a real delight. We'd had to upgrade from a standard to a "comfort" room as no standards were available and it was well worth the few extra euro - the room was HUGE, with french doors that gave us direct access to the back garden. Besides being very clean, quiet and comfortable, it came with all the amenities: hairdryer, safe, internet connection, satellite TV, etc. No coffee/tea makers but that seems to be normal for Italian hotels.

Facilities include an outdoor pool and sun-bathing area, lobby bar, pool bar, marble terraces, large, sunny breakfast room and beautiful, park-like grounds. The staff was also first rate - very friendly and particularly helpful dealing with a transfer snag that would have been difficult for us to handle alone. They even had boxed breakfasts made up for our 4:30 AM run to the Naples airport! Rated a 4-star, I give this place 5 for the quality of their services alone - they're a class act.

Rates run 100-300 euro for standard or comfort rooms, and suites run more. Check their excellent website (lots of pictures!) for current packages. Breakfast is included with your room - lovely.

Unique Quality: All of it, from facilities to services, was terrific. The large, green space/gardens in back made it feel peaceful and removed from the bustle and noise of the piazza.

Sorrento's Best

This is the second time we have stayed at the Antiche Mura. The hotel is exquisite. The location is perfect - right off of the main piazza and close to everything. But the most outstanding feature is the staff. They cannot do enough for you - from helping you to mail home to planning your day - it is all done enthusiatically and professionally.
When we came back this year we felt as if we were returning home.
I would recommend this hotel for all ages - singles - honeymooners. There is something for everyone.
The breakfast is a sight to behold - meats and cheeses of every description. The sweet table tempts all but the strongest willed.
We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Unique Quality: Our suite was exquisite - all of the ammentities you need. The pool area is quite comfortable and the outside eating area is beautiful - beneath sprawling lemon trees.
Again the staff are unique in their caring and concern. They want you to enjoy yourself and will do whatever possible to enable you to do just that.

Nice hotel; great location

Antiche Mura is wonderfully located off Piazza Tasso (the main Sorrento Piazza). It is convenient to the Circumvesuvia train and all bus transportation as well as the ferry to Capri. It is within easy walking distance of the Standa supermarket where one should buy their goodies rather than the MUCH higher priced tourist oriented merchants.

The rooms are comfortable; the staff exceptionally accommodating and helpful. The breakfast is good, not outstanding. If Antiche Mura has a shortcoming, it is the feeble water pressure.

Unique Quality: The location as a place to explore the Amalfi Coast, Pompei, Herculneum, Capri, even Naples (take the Circumvesuvia direct to the terminii -about 1 1/2 hours) is exceptional. The price is reasonable and the standard rooms most comfortable albeit not spacious.

Delightful gem in Sorrento

Sorrento offers many levels of accomodation from the sublime to the ridiculous. We were neither honeymooners on the trip of a lifetime nor students looking for a place to crash. The Hotel Antiche Mura is the perfect place for someone who wants first class comfort in a beautiful, well-run gem of a hotel at a very reasonable price. It has 46 rooms, is quiet and well-appointed. We had a "comfort room" for 140EU per night including a bountiful breakfast in a bright and pretty breakfast room. The room was a nice size with new, inlaid wood furniture which reflects the area's tradition of exquisite wood marquetry. It had enough built-in drawers and closet space for a month's worth of clothes, good bedside reading lights, a desk with lamp and a very, very comfortable bed. The double-insulated french doors opened to a small balconey with two chairs and a table overlooking the chasm formed by the old Roman wall. The newly-renovated bath had a tub and hydro-massage shower and was well lighted. A hairdryer, frigobar and room safe are provided.

There is a spacious lounge and bar where happy hour specials are offered in an effort to get guests to mingle and mix - a very thoughtful, hospitable gesture. There is also a desk and internet-connected computer for the use of the guests (albeit at a small charge which I think is aimed at keeping guest's use to a reasonable time). The hotel staff is delightful and are quick to answer e-mail inquiries. They also booked a private car to pick us up at Naples airport (100 EU).

Unique Quality: There is a very pretty pool in a garden as well as several terraces for relaxing in good weather.

Great hotel, great breakfast, great stay!

We only stayed at the Hotel Antiche Mura for one night, but it was a wonderful hotel. The rooms were perfectly clean and were charming with Italian tiles and a great view onto the garden. The windows were able to be completely blocked out at night, perfect if you need a good night's sleep. Very good value, got more than we paid for!

Unique Quality: Breakfast was outstanding. A huge selection of meats, cheeses, fruits and pastries, as well as eggs, bacon and cereals.

The staff were all helpful and polite, although they didn't know where our car rental place was even though it was down the street. I think it was more of our language barrier than their problem and they did their best to try to help us.

More about Hotel Antiche Mura

Highly recommend the Antiche Mura

by A TripAdvisor Member

My wife is difficult to please when it comes to hotels. First impressions matter and it is always a worry that she will be disappointed, which casts a damper on the holiday. To say the least. Anyway, we staggered off the electric train from Naples and walked the hundred yards to the Antiche Mura (chosen after looking at this website) trailing cases behind us. Behold! A cool marble hall, efficient receptionist with perfect English, and a room with all comforts as described so well by others on these pages. Aircon worked and was quiet, plumbing first rate, all clean and tidy. Wife happy, me happy, would go again any time and have no hesitation in singing its praises.

The Best Hotel we have stayed in in Italy

by TripAdvisor Member KiwiNeil_10

It must be the best hotel we have stayed in in Europe. Last year we had 7 weeks driving around Europe staying a few nights in each Hotel, this year we had 7 weeks mainly in Italy. Our 5 nights at Hotel Antiche Mura were our most pleasant of any of our stays.
It was for every reason-the location of the hotel was ideal 100 metres(on the flat) from the main square. The reception and staff went fantastic, from the reception to the breakfast restaurant staff to the house maids. The Breakfast was one of the most extensive we have had on our travels. The room was clean, very large and tastefully furnished with a safe and fridge (we always take our own jug for tea and coffee), The pool area was quiet and serene, surrounded by lemon trees. Although only 100 yards from the main square we had no noise problems.
Our car was parked for us (a necessity in Sorrento). On our departure we were given a small bag of lemons as a gift. We really felt special and will definetly be returning-we do not have a single complaint the whole atmosphere created by the staff and surroundings was relaxing

Nice hotel, good loacation

by TripAdvisor Member Megwi

We have just returned from a week in Sorrento staying in the Antiche Mura.
The hotel was in an excellent location and was well maintained and clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful.
The breakfast, the only meal available in this hotel, was good, with a varied choice of cakes/pastries, fresh fruit, toast and eggs.
The room was smaller than we expected for an expensive 4 star hotel, but it was well appointed and clean.
The pool area was pleasant and clean and the sun loungers/chairs etc. were well maintained.
All in all we were pleased with this hotel as a base, but thought it was fairly expensive.

Probably the best hotel I have stayed in!

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel is fablous. From the bus stop in the main square, Antiche Mura is a 30 second walk past a beautiful shop and a tree lined road. The staff are not just there to be staff. They are friendly and make you feel at home. One night after a a meal my partner and I ended up chatting with with the recptionist for almost an hour as if we were old friends! The hotel itself is clean and luxurious. The pool is lined with lemon and ornage trees and couldnt be more beautiful. The breakfast was much more than any hotel (including 5 star) I have stayed in has ever offered. We definatly plan to return and couldnt reccomend a better hotel.
