A great view, good food and QUIET!

The hotel was well run, well priced, with a large contentail breakfast, clean sheets, clean beds, and lovely bathrooms. I would soooo stay there again! In Sorrento i am told that major hotels in town give earplugs to their guests to help them sleep at night. Earplugs are not needed at the wonderful hotel, whose name means nest. The hotel was quiet and comfortable. We had an AC balacony with seaview and it really is a room designed for families. The hotel seemed like it could be easily a honeymoon place, or a place to be with the kids, but it was definatly at least when we were there without lots of little kids. The place seemed empty, even though they were booked up. We enjoyed the resturant with its veranda, the prices were reasonable. My cousin and I shared a salad and their grilled vegtables, and i enjoyed the homemade pasta, clams and mussels. We had limoncello for desert and enjoyed such a wonderful view and sunset. It was definatly cooler, tempature wise on the mountain, and was welcome relief. They had free internet from 8am-Midnight. Breakfast was included with the price of the room, and they had a small library to borrow from.

Unique Quality: The views amazing.

Hotel Il Nido: Highly Recommended

I would highly recommend this hotel provided you do not need a pool or to be in the center of town, where it is noisy and the smell of gas/diesel fumes are present. If you want to wake up to the sound of bird song, have phenomenal views of the bay and Mt Vesuvius, enjoy home cooked meals at bargain prices and enjoy a clean, modern facility with free internet service then this is the place for you. Brothers Dino and Gianni are truly first class inn keepers - they run a fantastic, clean establishment at affordable prices. The shuttle bus provides regular runs back and forth to town. If you arrive by car, I would recommend leaving it in their car park and using local transportation. From what I heard from other guests who drove to the nearby towns of Amalfi and Positano, there is a severe parking shortage once you arrive.

Great value for money

Can really recommend the hotel Il NIDO. It's where we stayed the first time we went to Sorrento and was so good that we went back there. We weren't disappointed, the standard is still excellent. We had a spacious double room with en-suite and balcony looking straight out to Vesuvius for 70 Euros a night.. The view from the hotel over the Bay of Naples is worth all of that. Friendly, helpful English-speaking owners, very reasonably-priced restaurant, free internet access for e-mail consultation, free minibus to and from the centre of town. Their web site is very well done and well worth looking at:

More about Hotel Il Nido

Great stay at Il NIdo!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My sister and I stayed at Il Nido for a couple of days this past May. When we called the hotel from the train station, we were picked up by the shuttle within 8 minutes. The room was somewhat spartan, but the view from our room was fantastic. It was also clean which was a requirement in finding a hotel for my seriously allergic sibling. No smoke, no mold, no dust. The family that runs the hotel was very pleasant, spoke English and always made sure to greet us as we arrived or left for the day. They were also a good source of information about the best ways to get around and would did not accept tips. Yes, the hotel is outside the main town and up a windy road, but the peace and tranquility of the hotel and view was pleasant after the hustle and bustle during the day.

Comfort, friendliness and a great view

by izifaddag about Il Nido

Just a great place to be. Very tranquil halfway up the mountain overlooking Sorrento. Many visitors come back year after year to this friendly hotel.
It is run by 2 brothers who are super friendly and helpful.
There is a really good free breakfast every morning. Just help yourself to some coffee and pastries and go sit on the beautiful terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples with Mount Vesuvius right in front of you.

A Sorrento Bargain

by TripAdvisor Member IGO

We stayed at the Il Nido in May 2004 and found it very convenient. While the rooms were basic, they were not uncomfortable and the views were spectacular. The shuttle bus was a bonus and made getting into town and to the train station easy. The staff, while overworked, were efficient and helpful. The restaurant was the best thing about the hotel. We ate there 4 out of 5 nights, and while service was sometimes slow, the food and house wines were worth the wait. We had excellent meals for half the price charged in Sorrento. We would definitely stay there again.

Paradise for the budget traveler!

I chose this hotel from the reviews I read here...and was not dissappointed! The Il Nido was a beautiful hotel with a staff that was kind and accomodating. The views from the hotel are memorable and breathtaking. This hotels sits up on the mountain overlooking the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvious. Everyroom has a balcony!

We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended our time in Sorrento. The hotel staff assisted us in doing so.

My husband and I traveled through Italy for two and half weeks and found the breakfast here to be the most inclusive of choices. A european traveler needs to understand that when a hotel serves "breakfast" it usually means "continental," and should not think they'll receive more.

We would definitely stay here again!

We'll be back!

We stayed at the Il Nido from October 8 until October 11 and had a wonderful stay at this pleasantly run and quiet hotel. Being somewhat experienced in shortbreak holidays within different European countries, we feel that this hotel has one of the best price-quality ratio's possible.

What we liked: nice and friendly people; clean and comfortable rooms; great view on the Gulf of Naples (from your own balcony and from the restaurant); two internet computers free of charge; very good breakfast (even with champagne and smoked salmon on Sundays) and a rich choice in excellent Italian food for dinner.

What we didn't like: the towels (could be of better quality, but that is a minor detail).

Conclusion: one of the most attractive hotels we've ever stayed in and certainly worth the money!

Great value

by A TripAdvisor Member

Il Nido is three star hotel set high in the hills overlooking Sorrento and the Bay of Naples.
I booked direct through their website at a rate of 98 euros per night in Sept 9 b&b.
I got a large room with balcony with a wonderful seaview as I had requested, simple but clean.
This hotel is an excellent base for Sorrento but is not suitable for walking from nor seating around the pool - there isnt one, but runs free hourly trips into the centre of Sorrento with help to get to the bus to Naples Airport (6 euros) - taxi from the centre to the hotel is 22 euros.
The service at this hotel is very friendly, efficient - the food is good restaurant standard in the evening, breakfast is a bit basic - would be improved with a toaster left for people to use.
I reserved the room with a credit card but settled the bill with cash and got a discount, no deposit was ever taken.
Their website "ilnido.it" is full of useful info and easy to use, typical of the place.
A great value hotel.

Talk about a sea view!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Firstly, this hotel is not to be confused with the Il Nido further along the coast in Sorrento (I made that mistake myself when looking for reviews for this hotel before booking). We recently spent 3 days here, and it was a great end to our holiday. The room was quite large, although the furniture was a bit shabby in places, but it was very clean and the view was fantastic. When they said they offered a sea view they weren't joking! We had views right over the sea, with a view of the town to our left, and it was just the most magical sight to wake up to in the mornings. I recommend room 4, as we seemed to have one of the biggest balconies. It's a 5 or 10 minute walk down to the centre of town, but this was more than worth it for the uninterrupted views, and it was lovely being able to enjoy the view with privacy, which the hotels in the centre don't offer. Also, check out Willy's Bar just beside the hotel - great place to let your hair down and have some fun.
