Sorrento Incredible views

Spent 3 nights at the Hotel La Tonnerella in a junior suite in September 2010. The room we were given was about 800 sq feet ( nearly double the size of an average room) and had a beautiful balconly overlooking the bay of naples and the hotel beach several hundred feet below. The room was resonably sized, the furniture a little old fashioned in dark wood.
Floors were tiled in majolica style tiles and our bathroom had both a spa tub and a programmable multi jet shower.

The menu could be described as creative and some of what you might expect to see at an upscale restaurant but the food itself as far as presentation and taste was just average.
Both restaurants indoors and outdoors posted exceptional views. We felt the buffet breakfast provided was the best one we had during our 10 day trip through Italy although it was mostly comprised of rolls, pastries and fresh fruit cereal and breads.

All of the common area around the hotel and the interior decor was just lovely. We paid for a deluxe room at a rate of 180 euro but were upgraded to a junior suite. The room could be described as somewhat
The walk to town took about 10-15 minutes. We were told that you could catch a bus into town within 100 feet of the hotel but we never took it. Scooters can be rented in town for a reasonable price and about 50% of the traffic in town is people on scooters.

We used the beach once during our visit and the hotel beach can be described as quaint and enjoyable but not highly recommended, very small and rocky. The beach can be accessed via elevator and a 5 minute walk down several flights of stairs.

Downside: Although overall adequate we found the service to be somewhat apathetic and at times bordering on rude. We were able to get the information we needed and have our needs attended to overall so this was easy to overlook.

Unique Quality: Hotel has excellent dining facilities both inside and out, boasting a rooftop terrace restaurant with expansive views of the Bay of Naples while also creating a romantic and almost removed atmosphere of from the bustle of the town below.

The views of the Bay and Vesuvius from the Balconies, along with the tranquil atmosphere of being around 500 meters ( or so we were told) above town were priceless and the highlight of our trip here.

Hotel Ristorante La Tonnarella

Great Hotel .... Very small as it used to
be a private residence. It is a family
owned business .... It is very clean
throughout, the service was great, and
the owners were always on hand to
assist in anything we needed.
Great breakfast is included, and there
was plenty of it ....

Unique Quality: The Hotel takes his name from the typical Tonnarella
fishing net in use for the smallest tuna species.
This net differs from the real Tonnara because it has
only three rooms and, in particular, it is not provided with
the death room or Mattanza room, since Sgombri,
Palmiti and Tonnacchielle have to be fished alive.

About 100 dollars per night including breakfast. Was once an Italian villa. Has its own private beach.
Views of Mount Vesuvius and Sorrento which will take your breath away.

People watching over a coffee

by jezza276

Staying at Hotel La Tonnarella for a week at the beginning of June. Any recommendations of a coffee shop/restaurant/bar in Sorrento for just sitting and watching the world go by?

Hi,

If you just want to sit and people watch then I suggest Fauno's bar which is right in the middle of piazzo Taso.I haveSpent many afternoon evenings watching the world go by.

Down at the piazzo tasso there is one place that we used to sit at was the perfect spot for doing excactly that,we used to count those funny little cars with moped engines buzzing away i cant remember the name and not sure on excact location of place maybe just off the corso italia from memory it had red decor shelter but it was close by to a taxi rank. hangout

you can sit outside under shade and have a coffe pizza etc and enjoy the busy hustle coming from all directions

hope thats helped a little
