Modern Hotel in Central Location
The Plaza cannot be bettered for location - Only a few metres from the main square (Piazza Tasso). The hotel is absolutely spotless with a very fresh and modern decor. This is unusual for Sorrento as the vast majority of hotels here have a more traditional/older look and feel.
Reception staff and waiters were all polite, friendly and helpful, The breakfasts were very decent by Italian standards with a good range of options each morning.
The roof top terrace and pool is a recent addition and a great place to chill out. The pool is on the small side but has great views and was always quiet whenever we visited.
I will definitely return to Hotel Plaza and would not hesitate in recommending this hotel as it is terrific value for money.
Bathrobe, slippers and a square toilet seat
This hotel was centrally located and is easy to get to on foot from the train station. My family and I took the Circumvesuviana train from Naples to the end of the line. You can walk or take a taxi - walking is much more affordable as there are pre-established fares for destinations within the city of Sorrento and those fares increase if you have luggage with you. My suggestion is to map your walking route on google before you arrive.
The staff at the hotel was very professional. The room we stayed in was a triple suite with a balcony on the facade of the building. The Plaza provides you with a bathrobe with a hood and slippers. I had never seen a square toilet seat until I stayed at this hotel. It can be said that this hotel was ultra modern which is a rarity in historic downtown centers in Italy.
The breakfasts were excellent - eggs and their version of bacon (fried cured ham), yogurts, pastries, fruit, cereals and bread. Fruit juices and if you would prefer the staff will ask you if you would like coffee (and this is at no additional cost).
I can't speak for the pool on the roof as it was out of order when we stayed here.
I would definitely stay here again.
Well located, comfortable, very helpful staff
Recently up-dated with each floor having it's own colour scheme and a roof terrace with pool and bar, this hotel was idea for our stay in Sorrento. The bar and restaurant did not have any atmosphere or customers but this is not that surprising as all Sorrento has to offer is just around the corner so most head in to town.
Tony the barman is very charming and friendly and added to our experience.
The pool needs some heating!!!
Perfect loaction, beautiful asthetics and helpful, friendly staff - faultless.
The modern, freshly painted fascia of the Plaza Hotel accompanied by the luscious green foliage in contemporary white pots adorning the entrance certainly give this hotel a cover on which the book should be judged.
Check-in was smooth, queue free and most importantly completed with a smile. From here we took a glass-fronted elevator through the various colour coded floors (though please be assured that stairs are available for the more exercise-conscious!) Rooms were operated via a ‘credit card key’ – not such a novelty nowadays but this system boasted a hi-tech display just outside the door to notify cleaners if the room was occupied. Our room continued the colour scheme of the floor on which we were on and offered a well-stocked mini-fridge, air-conditioning, phone, tv, wardrobe with safe, balcony with two chairs and a table (with a street view – not particularly tranquil when sat there but good for people watching). The bathroom was also well equipped with a hairdryer, more towels than we knew what to do with and the usual complimentary shampoo, shower gel and body lotion.
Breakfast was served from 7.00-10.30am and offered a huge choice – cold meats and cheese, toast, prepared fruit, croissants, doughnuts, cakes, pastries, yoghurts, cereals, scrambled egg, bacon and sausages, fruit juice, a juicer machine (for making your own fresh carrot, celery etc.) and of course coffee and cappuccino! The breakfast staff were always friendly, well turned out and greeted you with a smile no matter what time of the morning it was!
The rooftop pool and sun terrace is a beautiful setting for some relaxation. Food is served there around lunch time until 2.30pm. Prices are a little on the steep side but sometimes it was just necessary when it was too hot to go traipsing around Sorrento for a bite to eat. Though the area was relatively small, don’t be put off. We never once had to fight for a sun lounger and the pool was never crowded. The views from this spot are truly amazing and seemed to be unsurpassed by any of the hotels surrounding us. The pool also offers jacuzzi style jets which we didn’t realise until the last day! (There are three silver buttons just to the right of pool as you get in which activate these jets!) Towels are provided free of charge.
The hotel bar is located at the front of the hotel and became our regular ‘watering hole’ before or after we’d been out for our evening meal. As the hotel is just a stone’s throw from the main square, it was a perfect retreat for curling up on the terrace and enjoying a cocktail or glass of wine. Again, though prices were not particularly cheap, the service was exemplary. The barman (Massimiliano) could not be more welcoming and every night made us feel as though we were the only people in the bar. Drinks are served on a tray, to your table accompanied by complimentary nuts, crisps, hot bread bites and other delicious appetisers. The open front also makes this a perfect spot for some more people watching!
I would highly recommend this hotel without hesitation. Keep up the good work!
A few tips for the general area -
If you visit Pompeii make sure you take plenty of water and food and a hat! The place is much bigger than i anticipated and, once you've paid to enter the site there is no where to buy food or water (though there are water fountains). We spent 4 hours there and it was so hot it became unbearable so we didn't cover the entire site.
The trains are useful and relatively cheap but they have no air conditioning! Again, take lots of water!
Beware of where you eat/drink in Capri, we stopped at one place where they charged 5 Euros for a can of Coca Cola!
A wonderful experience
We spent only one night here with my partner on our honeymoon. Initially I wasn't too keen to stay at the hotel as I thought it would be too modern, clinical and impersonal, but I was wrong. This ended up being the best choice of hotel we had made and we had a wonderful time. The pool area is so peaceful and stylish and services were brilliant. Customer care is a top priority at this hotel, and you can feel it throughout. We had everyhting we needed and more. We loved the tranquil (ambient) music that was playing in the bar and pool area. At night me and my partner were enjoying the views and the music at the rooftop bar and were the only people there and we felt simply blissfull.
This hotel is a great choice for service, location and comfort. Particularly so if you like modern, simplistic and fresh style. Highly recommended!
High quality modern hotel in the heart of Sorrento - superb!!!!!
Just returned from a 6 day break to Sorrento booked through Lastminute.com. We are fussy when it comes to hotel accomodation and took a long time deciding on Hotel Plaza.
On our way to Hotel Plaza, our taxi driver told us that we had made a good choice and he was right - this hotel is exceptional in every department. Public areas are spotless - the ground floor bar is contemporary and finished to a high standard - the rooms are modern with high quality fittings - and the staff are particularly friendly and very efficient.
Whats more the roof top pool/ bar/ sun bathing deck is perfect, with no problems getting a sun bed at any time of day! Hint - ask for a glass of water up there and it is free - a bottle will cost you!
Hotel Plaza is perfectly - and quietly - located just off the main square - you can walk everywhere - pleased we did not go for Hotel Bristol as this was high up on the hill and away from the main area (it is also on a main road).
Breakfast buffet was excellent - try the juicer and create your own healthy drink to start the day. All of the time service was with a smile and the reception staff in particular were very helpful in hiring us a moped and check boat times etc.
All in all a first rate hotel which in our opinion will not disappoint!!!!!
Amazing design hotel dowtown Sorrento...
I have spent a week in the Plaza Hotel with my girlfriend given the excellent feedback from Tripadvisor and I can definitely say I would go back again.
Sorrento is the perfect place to stay if planning to visit Vesuvio, Pompei and the Amalfi Coast: the hotel is perfectly located less then 5 minutes from the train/bus station where regular service run from early morning till late night giving you really good flexibility. With the hotel located just off the main square Piazza Tasso, it is also vey covenient to catch a taxi.
The hotel itself is close to perfection...brand new, stylish, with decently size rooms, all nicely decorated...luckly ours had also a nice balcony. I'd say a minor point was the fact the room was located on the back of the hotel with no view: having sid that , we were travelling all day and it was not so relevant.
One of the best features of the hotel is definitely the Sky bar on the top floor with Infinity pool.On wednesday the hotel organises a cocktail starting from 19:30 and I could say it was superb: fine drinks, excellent food and a stunning unprecedented view on the gulf of Napoli...one of the best sunset ever.
Last but not least the excellent breakfast in the morning with a very good selection of freshly cooked cakes...
The hotel is definitely worth the 4 stars and i would strongly recommend a visit
A wonderful hotel
This is a lovely hotel perfectly situated just one minute walk away from the main square in Sorrento. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great and the service was fantastic. Our room was very clean with a good view from the balcony - great for people watching. The roof top pool and terrace are superb. We had a lovely stay and would definately recommend this hotel.
