People watching
by Catspjm
Avoid the slightly tacky and over priced bars and cafes around the edges of Piazza Tasso and do as the locals do. While away an hour or two in Bar Erculano, bang in the centre of the square enclosed by low hedges. Some of the bets people watching in the world and half the price of anywhere else.
Public Transport

For Visitors to sorrento those wishing to visit Naples, Pompeii, or Vesuvius/Hercalaneum, think
train and not tour. The trains are frequent, very cheap and you can tour places at your own pace. (Double the time you think you need)
The train station is in the Town centre and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Remember to validate your ticket in the machine befre you set off. (valid for 90 minues)
Dine and Dance outdoors as the sun sets
by CJD68 about Circolo dei Forestier
An outdoor patio on the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranian. A superb Italian wait staff dressed in royal blue shirts, black pants and a black tie. Candle lit dinner tables surrounding a dance floor while music mixes with the sea breeze. First an antipasta of mixed vegetables, ham & cheese, then 2 pastas followed by veal smothered in tomato sauce and mozzorella cheese. Dessert was lemon cake accompanied by Lemon Liquer, a local specialty.
Beaches
by Rebecca76
The beaches in Sorrento are all rock and while it is nice to get some beach time in, I think there might be more enjoyable places to hang out. The water is pretty warm, but there is a bit of an undertow.
Sorrento, Divided

In Piazza Tasso, walk over to the flags and look down! You will see the giant crack that once separated the two sides of the city and the roads that wind down to the harbour below. Access to beach level is by public bus, private shuttle or stairway.
