Harbours of Sorrento
by HORSCHECK
Make a stroll around the two harbours Marina Piccola and Marina Grande. The local fishing boats leave from Marina Grande. The wharf for the ferries to the islands of Capri and Ischia, to Naples and to Castellammare is located at Marina Piccola.
Circumvesuviana
by Jetgirly
You can reach Sorrento by Circumvesuviana, a local commuter train connecting Naples to Sorrento, and stopping at all the important achaeological sites in-between. Tickets are priced depending on the length of your journey, and are valid for a certain number of minutes, including return trips (if they are within the time limit). Buy your ticket directly at the station, and if there is time remaining at the end of your trip you can use it to connect with local city busses. You can see ticket prices at the site below.
Main Stops: Napoli Centrali Train Station (lower level), Pompeii Scavi (archaeological site), Ercolano (archaeological site), Sorrento (via degli Aranci, five minutes by foot to city center).
Many people report having purses or wallets stolen on this train. I personally did not have any problems, nor did my family when they visited. It's always best to keep your hands on your purse at all times, and to keep your valuables where wandering eyes (and hands) can't see them!
Fantastic!
by Olya777 about Antico Francischiello de Peppino
Just about 15 mins drive from downtown Sorrento toward Massa Lubrense. Overlooking olive groves seeming to run into the sea, this incredible restaurant been welcoming hungry travelers for over 100 years (running by 4th generations now) Two huge, beamed rooms with sprays of fernery, antique mirrored sideboards, family pitures on the walls, hundreds of mounted plates, brick archways, old chandeliers, fresh flowers and tangerine-hued tablecloths is quite a sight. The owners' name is Francesco. He always give you a friendly welcome and his mom, is right in front, a kind, smiling face. ("Family visiting" kind of experience) Everything is first class tutto buono...
Marina Grande
by myriam_c
Marina Grande is the small fishing harbour almost at the south end of Sorrento. It's quaint and typical, with pastel coloured houses and lots of small fish restaurants.
It's a fairly steep walk down from the city centre.
Marina Grande - Sorrento Town

The walk back up from Marina Grande is not as steep as from the other beaches, but it is still a fair walk, so remember some water!! Especially when its hot!
Its actually a pretty walk back up, passing homes of the locals set on steep pedestrianised lanes in the cliff.
